>> washing their feet instead?
As a B-707/DC-8 pilot in Africa, one of our biggest contracts was flying the Muslims to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj. Since many of them came “out of the bush”, and had never seen a Western toilet (not to mention an airplane), the flight attendants had to repeatedly enter the lavatories and partially fill the sinks with water. If not, they would do their ritual washing with “blue water”.
(And yes, it’s true - someone once attempted to build a fire on the floor in order to heat their tea.)
We are doomed.
I heard that anecdote about moslem pax lighting a fire on board a Jeddah-bound Saudia Hajj Special. Some hill Paki tried it and set a fire in the cabin which spread throughout the entire craft. The pilot was able to land it at Riyadh, but the fire was so intense that the doors melted into their frames, no rescue was possible and all aboard perished. I did see a burned out craft that had been towed off the runway. After 30 years some of the details are blurry but that’s how I remember it. It MAY have been a PIA craft instead of a Saudia.
