DishTV has removed a number of stations! (vanity)

Dish TV has eliminated a number of stations (unfortunately, MSNBC was not one of them).

From their website:

"Our contract with Turner Networks (Turner) has expired and they have removed CNN, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, CNN en Español, Headline News, truTV, and Turner Classic Movies from DISH’s channel lineup

At DISH, we believe the customer should always come first. That’s why we work hard to bring you the best programming at a fair value. Learn more about our commitment to you."

Should I switch to DirectTV?

They all make you sign a two year contract. Just remember if you try to opt out of it early there’s a stiff penalty.

Both DirectTV and Dish offer no-contract "contracts", at least in this area. There is no penalty for stopping service at any time. But you do not get the benefit of promotional pricing for the first year.

I have neither cable nor satellite service, don't watch "entertainment" of any kind, but do stream Fox News and CNN occasionally over the Internets.

pretty soon all programming will be streamed.

Satellite TV got its start to serve rural markets that didn't have cable. They still don't, and streaming will not work over satellite internet bandwidth, even on Ka band which is by far the best currently available.

Make the switch to Direct TV, it is so much better, you will ask yourself why you stuck with that crap Dish TV for so long

If you can get the speed to stream.

Corruption going on in south Miami, they refuse to upgrade past 1MB and still charge $39.

Been asking these CROOKS for 7 years to upgrade and still the fix is in.

Yes, I find myself watching METV about half the time the TV is on.

Fortunately I get it on two different free over the air channels. One in Panama City and the other in Dothan, Alabama.

My directv everything package only costs me $140. That’s only because I was going to cancel all the premium channels so they reduced them. I finally dropped dish when they cut off FX in the middle of Sons of Anarchy season. It took some getting used to because of the different equipment but I’m satisfied.

You are correct but I was referencing big city markets.

Conspiracy in effect to keep streaming speed slow in many areas.

$140.00! I pay only $16.97 for Dish Network. That includes taxes. Of course I don’t get any premium channels but I don’t think I am missing much.

Every now and then I will get them free for a few days and there is never anything I really want to watch on them.

Can't see where it's worth more than $14 but to each his own.

If you DL current stuff they are trying to sell, your odds greatly increase. Most new stuff is pure garbage so why bother. Use peerblocker even when not DLing to stop intruders.

I changed to Dish over Direct TV years ago and found it much better. The only time they let me down is we couldn’t see the playoffs Giants and Cardinals

Not a baseball fan but I know some of those games were on, and I have dish.

Tried P2P way back in 01-2. My luck I’d get a letter from “them people” wanting a few hundred thousand for pain and suffering.

I probably should have mentioned I have 4 receivers. so I am paying DirecTV $18. per month for the “extra” 3 boxes. Anything over about $70./mo. total is too much for our family on the TV “worth it” scale...if cable/sat. companies don’t go “ala carte” on their channel selection soon, I am thinking that Netflix/Amazon Prime/off-air antenna will be our next selection for a lot less $$ per month!!

While we’re on the subject. I get broadcast TV and streaming internet with Roku…but no cable or dish. Is there any way I can watch SEC football when it is not being broadcast on a major network (which is often for my team - Auburn)? I am willing to pay a reasonable fee if I have to.

I really hate just watching that little simulated football field while listening to streaming audio.

You mean $140 per year or what? I am totally ignorant on these kinds of things.
