Anthony Horowitz to write new James Bond novel inspired by original unseen Fleming material

Ian Fleming Publications Ltd. and the Ian Fleming Estate are delighted to announce that bestselling and award-winning author Anthony Horowitz has been invited to write the next James Bond novel, due for worldwide release on 8th September 2015.

Horowitz is one of the UK’s most successful authors and has over forty books to his name including his recent Sherlock Holmes novel, The House of Silk, and his enormously successful teen spy series featuring Alex Rider. As a TV screenwriter he created both Midsomer Murders and the BAFTA-winning Foyle’s War, and is looking forward to taking on his next project.

Set in the 1950s, Horowitz’s story will be unique among the modern James Bond novels, in that a section will contain previously unseen material written by Ian Fleming.

This has nothing to do with homosexuality or Daniel Craig. This has to do with the novel. If you are not interested, please respect others.

Anthony Horowitz originated and wrote much of the “Foyle’s War” BBC-tv series. He knows his historical stuff and can really put together a plot.

That is to say, there’s the potential for him to produce an awfully good novel using the Bond oeuvre.

Horowitz also did Collision, an artful and clever mini-series built around a car accident.
I liked the Foyle series a lot, especially the last (?) series where Foyle joins MI5.
As for James Bond, I like Dennis Craig as Bond, but Horowitz normally has more cerebral heroes.

I feel for the feller and wish him luck. Let's face it, you can't get much more formulaic than Bond has become since Ursula Andress...Ursula Andress...uh, what were we talking about?

The thing is that Fleming started off with real-world bad guys. You can't get much worse than SMERSH. SPECTRE was a fantasy and off we go to a series of comic-book supervillains that became increasingly divorced from credibility; nothing wrong with that for entertainment purposes but it loses a lot of the original edge, IMHO.

But the makings are there if the producer is willing to gamble. Drug cartels? Overdone. Terrorist bands plotting the Big Blast? Let's face it, nobody is interested in phony South African Nazis and nobody has the guts to do the real thing because it might offend somebody with a tablecloth on his head. Well, not since True Lies, anyway.

And so it isn't really Bond, the unchangeable and rather unbelievable free-world (if that term has any meaning in the days of 0bama) superhero, no, he'll be pretty much the same thing. It's all about the villains. And God forbid they should be gay (done that), black (done that), disabled (done that), or any other politically protected class in these days of a truly decadent, frightened, constipated, and unoriginal popular culture. You couldn't make Blazing Saddles anymore for the same reason that much of the Bond arc, pedestrian though it actually is, would be impossible to remake. Show me another Pussy Galore and prove me wrong.

“Collision” was quite good and Midsomer Murders is entertaining though hard to believe so many townspeople could get offed in such a small and beautiful part of England.

I always tried to guess how many murders would actually be committed/solved in a Midsomer episode - since it was seldom just one. As for the DC or Detroit level murder rate and the resulting depopulation, I was more concerned about Cabot Cove than Midsomer.

Murder on Wheels, and follows Bond on a mission in the world of motor racing.

Due out in Sep 2015. Sounds interesting and I'm really curious about what all cars will be mentioned. Thanks for the link in your second ping too.

It would be of great interest to me for someone to make a new Bond flick with less formula and more intrigue, suspense.

I’m not understanding your link M.L., unless you think I’m unfamiliar with James Bond? I read the books further back than I care to mention!

Perdogg can verify that friends and I have been ‘here’ for years posting many, many wonderful James Bond graphics. The cars in them have always been ‘snazzy’, but nothing like the cars of the 1950’s. That’s why I’m curious about a ‘50’s book.

If I misunderstood, let me know! Regards...

you misunderstood.

My link was a reference for anyone who wants to see such a list. It was not intended as a comment on your knowledge of Bondology.

Oh no! Not in the ‘50’s surely!
But, you could be right, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Or - it could just be ‘bondo’ - on the cars, hahaha.
