The popular song “Royals” by New Zealand artist Lorde is getting caught up in the fervor over the upcoming World Series between the San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals.

Two San Francisco radio stations say they won’t play the song during the duration of the World Series. KFOG and KOIT announced the bans last week as the Giants clinched the pennant and headed to the series. …

If they are that afraid of a song then they are toast.

Sounds like they really fear a KC sweep.

Never heard it until this article. Listened to it on YT, and while the song isn't bad, I'd probably get bored and change the station, but it's not any where near being intriguing enough to be what I would have considered hit-material in my youth.

I wonder if the stations know that they publicizing the song by banning it?

"Banned in Boston" was a positive for works of "art" - books, films, etc. for both the boost and whatever notoriety people would imprint from their imaginations.

In any case, I'm an O's partisan, but now I hope SF is toast in four.

Men. It’s just one of those lame things cities do when they are playing for a championship. During the ALCS, Kansas City briefly renamed Baltimore Street to Royal Street, or something similar.

Men? I doubt it’s specifically related to sex. And renaming streets is not the same as banning songs.

As I understand it, it’s just two radio stations that said they’re not going to play the song during the World Series. There is no law, ordinance, or anything making it an actual crime to play it.

OK, that’s it. No more Scott McKenzie, no more San Francisco, no more gentle people, no more flowers in their hair. It wasn’t that good a baseball song anyway.

The SF Giants are pissed that they don't have a song to counter with...

but, I'd suggest that they go with that oldie that was popular back in the day...

If you're going to San Francisco,
Make sure you wear, some flowers in your head...

I’ve listened Lorde singing the song. I would describe it as too cute by half.

There's a KC station that has announced they're going to play the song every hour on the hour, 12 hours a day, for the duration of the series. If you were bored by it before then I image you'd really hate it by the end next week.

Check out Weird Al Yankovic’s parody “Foil”.

Much better.

Not a bad song, just kind of an earworm (it crawls into your ear and lodges itself in your brain).

GO GIANTS!
