They were not told not to travel. The one nurse even called the CDC and they said it was ok.

It seems there are conflicting reports on that. I recall the head of the CDC saying that she was not allowed on a plane.

We cannot lock up...no we can’t but as health care workers they may need to self quarantine to save the country. After all whats 21 days of their lives compared to the misery they will spread?

No one in the US has been infected who was not working in direct care of an Ebola patient and who was following Ebola protocols while treating the patient.

If those facts change on a wide spread basis, self monitoring is better than Obama imposed quarantine.

If they have been exposed, they can self quarantine and as soon as they think they have symptoms, they can report that to the CDC.

I've seen plenty of photographic evidence to the contrary regarding protocols. It's been reported that those who were working with Duncan wore no protection of any kind for the first two days. This alone refutes the notion that any medical professional who becomes infected has failed to follow protocol.

It appears to me that you reject a successful means of halting the spread of disease due to political considerations. Political considerations are what has caused this outbreak to begin with, in my opinion.

Wow all these people hopping on planes, boarding ships...I had no idea how complacent I’ve been just driving a few hours to a campground or something once a year.

...A few years ago I wanted to see a play and sightsee in London but had nobody to go with so I was gonna do it solo, then my husband and mom freaked out...*sigh*

Seems when it comes to cruises people either love them or hate them. What did you dislike about it? I’ve never been on one.

I’m not particularly eager to be in an enclosed environment with someone who is potentially infected with a rapidly fatal virus, myself. That’s a new thing that hasn’t been a consideration up until now. It seems rational to me to avoid that possibility as much as possible. As far as London solo, if you know the town and are good at reading people I’d say go for it. If you don’t or are naive, I’d say not.

I don’t know the town. I’m fairly good at reading people. I do have generalized anxiety disorder but I was so stuck in a rut I threw caution to the wind and was all set to go myself, to have an adventure, but my husband wasn’t on board and my mother said she’d worry the whole time, so I didn’t.

Aside from Ebola and other viruses, was there a reason you didn’t like cruising? A co-worker said she hated how crowded it was, hard to use the ammenities, didn’t like the feeling of being out in the middle of nowhere, and the cabin was too tiny.

That’s why we should call it after the guy who is responsible: Obola Virus.
Coming soon to a neighborhood near you!

The tiny, backward nation of Belize gets it. We’re too stupid.

At this point, I’m pretty much expecting to read that one of the Texas health care workers went to a large cafe and licked all the spoons.

Or, “I think I’ll take a cruise to Belize.”

***

My guess is that the cruise wasn’t a spur of the moment decision. There are cruise clubs where, if you’re willing to leave on a moment’s notice, you can snare an unsold cabin at rock bottom prices. But for most passengers a cruise is planned and booked months or even a year beforehand and the cost is paid for in advance.

I don’t know what a cruise line would do in this situation, but cruise lines are reluctant to refund the money paid. Cruise insurance might net you some money, but a good chunk of the money paid will not be recovered.

We cannot lock up every person who worked in that Dallas hospital while Duncan was there.

Yes. For the two week gestation period we CAN.

I wouldn’t Eboma deciding who to quarantine either, but we should at least not let people from the plague-ravaged countries not to come to the USA.

and is currently on a ship tender unable to return to the cruise ship

Ha......the two of them ....possibly infected with Ebola....are on a SHIP TENDER....off Belize City

Looks something like this:

So they on the Ship Tender....Belize won't let them land....and the ship also refuses them to get back on board...

You just can't make this up

Hope the SHIP TENDER can make it back to the USA in less than 21 days.

to go on a cruise and brag about handling vials of Ebola?

From personal experience, when I am in the sauna, I like to talk about all the infectious diseases that I have handled...

I’m with you. Some of these healthcare workers seem way too casual for my liking.
