The fiance of Amber Joy Vinson, the second person to contract the Ebola virus in the United States, is under quarantine in Texas.

No name or age has been given for the fiance, who is in Dallas under self-quarantine, which basically means that he’ll avoid contact with others and alert officials if he shows any symptoms.

The man isn’t showing signs of the virus as of yet but will stay home from work for the next three weeks to play it safe, reported WFAA.

His employer, NationStar Mortgage in Lewisville, says the man called them and admitted that he’d been around Amber leading up to her diagnosis.

Senior management at the company believe everyone is safe.

“Our understanding is from the health authorities we’ve talked to is that since he was last at work on Thursday, and the person he was in contact with who has the illness didn’t show symptoms until this week, that there’s no risk or danger to anyone at NationStar because there was no contamination present in our building,” spokesman John Hoffmann said...

Bla bla bla. What if you come into contact with an asymptomatic person’s blood, feces, urine, semen? I call bullshit on this “need to show symptoms” to be contagious.

I have a legit question. Someone help me out here.

Even if a person is not symptomatic, isn’t there a blood test that can show if you’ve at least been exposed to the virus?

Or does a person need to be symptomatic in order to have positive blood test?

Anyone?

You know they didn’t even list the nurses as seriously at risk cause they were wearing protective gear. I just hate seeing Freepers giving more respect to the CDC who lies with almost every breath, while this nurse freaking called the CDC with her fever 3X before getting on the plane they told her she could.
Anyone on this site could would have made a better call on that than the CDC did. They are freaking trying to blame her with the trash talk she “was sick before she got on the plane to go up there”. Don’t you think she likes living enough she would gone straight to the hospital if CDC did not mislead her?

I would like to know exactly what she told the CDC. I agree that a bad decision was made, but I would still like to read what she told them.

I may be wrong but I think she was a cook for 7 families. Of those 7, 3 families came down with Typhoid and I believe 3 people died from her Typhoid including a child. I could be wrong. It makes me wonder what spared the others; strong immune system? Body chemistry? Who knows.

Here’s a good source of ingo.

The basic answer is that until it replicates ‘enough’, it is almost impossible to find in the bloodstream. Besides, it takes an ELECTRON MICROSCOPE to find the little buggers.

Let me be clear. Make no mistake. If you like you doctor, you keep you doctor.

As they were engaged, I would suppose there was close, personal contact.

What a damn shame. Prayers up for this guy.

No surprise here. Anyone heard any news on the first nurse’s boyfriend. I thought he was hospitalized too.

It could be possible if you are infected. But the distribution of virus might make it difficult it find.

It’s not like a litmus test.

Currently they do two draws. The first one is tested in about four hours. If that comes back positive, the second test is sent to the CDC for the longer test. The first test can give off false positives, but very few false negatives. As of today it is the best, fastest screen.

As an aside, the Cinemax series “The Knick” has a sub theme around Typhoid Mary and how they tracked her down, quarantined her, let her go, and had to do it all over again.

It’s a pretty decent portrayal. Of course it’s dramatized. But interesting.
