If you want to leave your home country behind, move to Ecuador.

That's according to the largest survey of expatriates in the world. Nine out of 10 respondents from the South American country reported being satisfied with their lives there, making it the No. 1 destination.

The data comes from the 2014 Expat Insider, administered by InterNations. It includes responses from nearly 14,000 expats from more than 160 countries.

The questions touched on general quality of life, working abroad, family life, leisure and making friends abroad, international romance and expat relationships, and personal finances.

Ecuador? No way, no how.

Socialist president. Bad infrustructure. A government that just gave away a bunch of its gold to Wall Street as security for more welfare spending.

And the country is dabbling in bitcoin as an alternative to a real currency.

Ecuador’s future is Venezuela.

Neither is my top pick.
Falkland Islands.
Not a destination for people who can’t entertain themselves though.

Ecuador???? Mexico???? The only "Latin" country I've ever visited is Brazil.I've spent some time there and have seen a fair portion of it...the populated parts near the Atlantic,at least. If either Ecuador *or* Mexico is even half as bad as what I saw in Brazil (very likely,IMO) then their both Fourth World cesspools of unimaginable chaos and futility.

What's the author of this piece been smoking?

Costa Rica is between Panama and Nicaragua. The healthcare is rated highly. Better be cause that’s where construction begins next year on Casa de Newbie. Bought a lot in southwest Costa Rica (Pacific Ocean side) that’s appreciated 11% since purchase in March. Hope to be dinking Cahuita rum and wrastling gators in a couple years.

I can definitely entertain myself easily. But the Falklands wouldn’t work for me as I do not get along with cold weather at all.

Funny how many people from Mexico desperately want to move to the USA..... and now they’re telling us that it’s one of the best places for Americans to move to...

Something is missing here that they’re not telling us....

It’s pretty simple. You (the expat to be, not you personally) have plenty of dineros. Not so much those trying to get out.
