Thanks. Unfortunately it doesn’t show what might have caused the crash. You have to think he was just carrying too much speed into that corner. Mechanical failure seems unlikely, and we can’t tell if the were other cars near him that might have contributed to his going off.
I see they have already taken it down.
hydroplane, pure and simple...
wow- didn’t know F1 could claim property rights for a home movie taken by a ticket buying fan...
here it is again in slow-motion and super slow motion:

the others amazing thing about the slow motion video is the crane stopped Bianchi’s car dead in its tracks..(no gross pun intended)
also- the marshall on the right in the orange jacket is luck he wasn’t crushed by the crane....
my bad- here it is in slow mo and super slow mo describing the things i mention above...don’t know how long its up for:

OMG!!!! thanks for that link. Just horrible.
It’s a miracle there were no course workers in the way.
Wow I just cannot believe his car actually made that crane vehicle get off the ground. Thanks for taking the time to find this video.
remember the front of the crane was heavy and off balance as it had Sutil’s car in midair...its a good thing the crane lifted- could Bianchi suffer that blow??
While no form of auto racing is completely safe (as it could never be), I think F1 has been pretty safe when taking into consideration the speed, weight and tech involved (since the awful 1994 season, of course).
However, I look for a couple reactions to this tragedy. One is the increase of the appearance of Safety Cars as pace vehicles whenever there is an on-track presence of tow cranes and track personnel. The other thing might be the unfortunate end of Suzuka as an F1 venue due to run-off proximity.
the latter would be a shame and I don’t think will happen...this isn’t a case of lack of run-off area, just a rare instance of a car that ran off course and hit a crane which was removing another car that ran off course and hit a tire barrier with little to no injury....
when you get right down to it Indy car is a purer form of racing as it is less forgiving to those who veer off road and street courses...
Wow.
I’m amazed he survived the initial impact.
Thanks, you are right. Yeah it may have been a good thing the crane was holding that car. It may have helped.
Niki Lauda was present at the track in Japan, Sunday.
Bianchi’s crash is related to running in the rain, most likely.
Reminds me of the movie “Rush.” Japan GP, rain, championship on the line.

Driver safety. Jackie Stewart took up the cause of driver safety, too.
There is another movie “Afternoon of a Champion” (about Stewart) initially made in 1972, but only re-released in 2013.

I saw it on Netflix.
Holy... Cow.....
Look at the energy of the impact, picked the crane up on three if not it’s fourth wheel into the air and moved the crane in the air about 6 to 7 feet to the right.
