What good are lapel cams and microphones if the cops are disabling them? Why aren’t they being fired for this?

“No one likes to be monitored,” says Sid Heal, recently retired commander who evaluated technology during his decades-long tenure at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. And? If you do not want to be filmed and recorded don’t be a cop.

According to the arstechnica.com, The Los Angeles Police Commission is investigating how half of the recording antennas in the Southeast Division went missing, seemingly as a way to evade new self-monitoring procedures that the Los Angeles Police Department imposed last year.

“Scads of Russian motorist use their own money to buy dashcams to protect themselves in case of an accident.”

Not to mention the fact that it also provides hours of hilarious videos. Go to YouTube and search on “driving in Russia,” for many examples.

yes. I’m in a 1983 case as a plaintiff. If cops were not indemnified then they would straighten up on Constitutional Violations. Many need training in case law real bad...

HALF of them.

Now, can one of the local FR bootlickers please explain to me how it's just a "few" bad cops that sour the barrel?

So, if they dpont[’ know when the cameras stop working, how can you fire them when cameras brewak and he doesn’t report it in 5-min?

You can't. That's my point. I wasn't the one saying that they should be fired, in the first place.

Usually when laws passed that involve Officials there is not “Or else” clause written into the law. Often there is no penalty for failure to comply.

I’ve got an idea. Make the police officers weapon unable to function , if the body camera has been tampered with or turned off. I am sure the technology is there to make this work. No camera. No bang, bang.

So, the body camera will make him stupid? Do car cams have the same effect on cops?

Having a running video log robs the officer of of his most valuable asset, which is his discretion.
Hey, Joe, how ya doin? You treating my sister right? Well, you can just go on your way. If I had known it was you I wouldn't have pulled you over at all.

I will agree the concept does cut both ways

If you have nothing to hide — hey, why does that only apply to the citizens?

“Any area or city with the word ‘Gardens’ in it is a huge red flag to turn around and head the other way if you value your life”

Palm Beach Gardens? Never trust those WASP types.

Now Martin Luther King Jr Blvd? There’s a place you don’t want to go.

I must be racist.

I think the real reason why cops should be begging to have their actions videoed is because there are so many cameras out there and editing is so easy that they better have their unedited version available to counter it if they didn't do anything wrong. Otherwise it will be their word against a Youtube video with a million hits and they will lose.

What's going to happen when an LA cop gets into a questionable action and when asked for their video every cop there claims to have had an unfortunate equipment failure? Their claims of innocence will be met with the same contempt that Lois Lerner's are.

The days where they could grab every camera and destroy the recording to keep their actions from being seen are long gone. They will be recorded and there is nothing they can do to prevent that.

Hogwash. Our local PD has it, they have no problem.

L.A. needs to get on the stick and start disciplining officers for damaging equipment.

They don’t.

Many models the device in the trunk. Camera in the car. No indications of operation.

No way to tell if it breaks and/or stops.

Suggests to me that they are going places or doing things they don’t want recorded that are improper and/or against department policy.
