Why Isn't The Media Outraged About The Kansas City Chiefs?
The Federalist ^ | September 30, 2014 | Ben Domenech

Posted on 09/30/2014 11:55:12 AM PDT by right-wing agnostic

Last night on Monday Night Football, the ESPN crew couldn’t stop praising the loud, engaged home crowd at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium. They opened the game with a ceremony where running back Christian Okoye, “The Nigerian Nightmare”, pounded on a giant drum as tens of thousands of Chiefs fans cheered on. The crowd, many of whom wore feathers and American Indian-themed garb, chanted and did the Tomahawk Chop. They were so loud that, if you believe these measures, they set the new Guinness World record for loudest crowd roar, surpassing the Seahawks. It was a pretty awesome (in the traditional meaning) scene, unless you were a New England Patriot or a Patriots fan.

But I gotta ask, where’s the outrage from the politically correct?

Bob Costas? Phil Simms? Keith Olbermann? Don’t you have anything to say about this?

There’s plenty of controversy about the Washington Redskins’ name. Rob Tracinski and Bill Voegeli have both written about the history of that controversy for us. My own view is that its lack of unpopularity or prioritization among Native Americans is a reason not to change the name. Sally Jewell, the U.S. Interior Secretary, recently noted this:

That was the estimation of Interior Secretary Sally Jewell, whose department oversees the Indian Affairs federal agency, when she was asked about the controversial brand in an interview with ABC News.

“Personally, I think we would never consider naming a team the ‘Blackskins’ or the ‘Brownskins’ or the ‘Whiteskins.’ So, personally, I find it surprising that in this day and age, the name is not different,” Jewell told ABC News’ David Kerley.

Could care less about the Chiefs.

What I want to see is the Left goaded into going after the Cleveland Indians and Chief Wahoo. Let the folks up in Northern Ohio who voted overwhelmingly for Obama feel what it’s like to get smacked in the face with Political Correctness.

I ran back that portion of the game on my dvr. Abdullah did not "drop to his knees in prayer." He slid into the end zone on his knees and then while he was down there he bent over and did whatever he did.

My husband reported the flag being thrown as Abdullah was sliding - not after he bowed down. When I watched it again, that was the case. So I believe that this whole thing is based on absolute fallacy.

The haters are out and the media is lapping up a fallacy as usual. I'm really getting tired of all the pc-nicks squeezing every bit of joy out of life wherever their tiny little victim minds perceives it.

The NFL doesn’t realize what they did here. They flagged a religious act. At least he was facing the right way.

And on the college level, North Dakota State has forever been the Fighting Sioux and the NCAA has banned that. I don’t know why they don’t just change to the Sioux and leave out the “offensive” Fighting...or better yet, change it to The Negotiating Sioux and add a Peace Pipe to the current fantastic Chief logo.

Becasue we'll beat their lily white a#####, and then shove some KC BBQ down their vegetarian pie holes, all the while doing the Tomahawk chop in the Cheif's kingdom!

But you'll notice they've left the Florida State Seminoles alone. That's what being a high publicity Division I team will buy you.

They hated Tim Tebow for his praying.... but they love this guy... a Muslim

He ran an interception back for a touchdown. If he keeps doing that then he can kneel, bow, prostrate himself to Mecca, or sacrifice a live chicken under the goalpost for all I care.

Florida State not only does the chop...they have a guy dressed as an Indian come out on a horse and shove a spear into the field.

But for some reason the Redskins get all the attention.

Florida State has the permission and the blessing of the Seminole Indian Tribe.

They tried, but the Seminole Tribe supports and appreicates Florida State honoring them.

And you know what I was thinking about - the 49ers.

Who were the 49ers? They were literally Gold-diggers! Greedy white MEN with no regard for ecology or the poor. I’m sure they totally exploited black people and Asians too! And women!

How can a team from our greatest city of extreme left wing-ism be named for such a group of eeeeeevil men?

Your post intrigued me for several reasons.

First, I am a Chief’s fan, but never knew the origin of the team name.

Secondly, I was a member of the Order of the Arrow, and we also called the adult in charge ‘Chief’. This was in Alabama, and Chief Cross was legendary. We always heard a story about the origins of the ‘Chief’ moniker, that was unrelated to the OA, but it is interesting to hear another member named ‘Chief’.

Thirdly, and this one is strange. I see you are in Kansas, and your name is Centurion. Centurion is the nickname of the 1-34 Armor Battalion, 1st ID - Fort Riley, which I was a member of....wondered if your name was derived from that unit?

For that matter, when — oh, when! — are we going to finally put to rest that hideous title of “chief” of police?
