I think that if you are able-bodied and get government assistance while remaining unemployed, you should be required to prove that you submitted a minimum of three job applications per/month, and to document why you were turned down - if you were.
Disability and welfare fraud is rampant in the US. Rarely is anyone caught because no one is investigating. A lot of these people are working on the side making even more money. A runaway train heading for the cliff.
