Ron Gardenhire is out as Twins manager

After 13 seasons, including six AL Central Division titles in a span of nine seasons, the Twins have parted ways with Gardenhire. The team lost 383 games in the past four season under Gardenhire, an average of more than 95 losses per season.

The Twins confirmed that they will replace Gardenhire in 2015. The Twins said in the release that they will "immediately begin their search for a new manager, internally and externally."

Gardenhire had one year remaining on his two-year extension signed last offseason. The rest of the coaching staff was retained at that time on one-year deals. The next coaching staff will be determined by the new manager and general manager Terry Ryan, according to the Twins.

The Twins (70-92) once again finished in last place in the Central this year.

Gardenhire replaced longtime Twins manager Tom Kelly in 2002. The Twins went 803-656 (.550 winning percentage) for the next nine seasons.

Should have happened at least two years ago and in a bigger market it almost certainly would have.

If a team like the Cubs or Mets doesn’t immediately grab the opportunity to get Gardenhire, they are fools!

They would had winning seasons if all they ever had to play was the Tigers.

I don’t know what it is but the Twins manhandle the Tigers like nobody else.

It’s amazing that they’ve only had two managers in the last 29 or 30 years.

Gardenhire is the ever-popular “player’s manager”. Meaning here, the inmates ran the asylum.

He played favorites, ruined young players, let veterans go who improved after they left us (the last two NL batting champs came directly from the Twins and there were seven former Twins in this year’s All-Star game) and he was 6-21 in the playoffs including losing the last twelve.

Go for it.

“Bobby Valentine is available. HHahhahahaha”

Don’t laugh, most teams these days NEED someone like a Bobby Valentine, somebody who will kick butt and take names. There are way too many “player’s managers” these days and that’s one reason for the lackadaisical play, but just one reason.

Dodgers bench coach Tim Wallach would be a good candidate, except that he can't be interviewed until after the Dodgers win the World Series.

Twins fans seem to saying “about time”.

A lot of teams should be interested, Theo, hello Theo, a here’s a guy that’s won some games.

Picking the Royals at home tonight.

Just noticed that the Pirates and Giants have both identical records and run differentials. Frisco is good on the road but I’m going with the Pirates.

First time ever that the Pirates and Royals make the post-season in the same year. Pretty impressive considering how one or the other made the playoffs in 14 of 16 seasons from 1970-1985 (Pirates in 1970, 71, 72, 74, 75 and 79 and Royals in 1976, 77, 78, 80, 81, 82, 84 and 85).

I’m picking the two home teams as well, and I hope that they go deep into the playoffs.

One pennant in 16 years of managing, his last two or three simply tearing out the soul of every team he managed. You certainly don’t want a guy of this calibre for sure.

Like I discussed with Impy, I also hope KC does well. BAL, too.

RE: CHC. Supposedly, they’re poised to take off in 2016. Maybe whoever’s in charge will look at Gardenhire then.

Firing Renteria so soon would be seen as a sign of instability in management—Renteria was the guy that Theo picked to lead the Cubs into contention, not merely to get them to the 70-win plateau and get fired after one year.
