How about they leave the userinterface ALONE and just concentrate on the Kernel...?????

16 million Windows 8 users out of over 700 million.
That is an epic fail.

I believe the idea with Win8 was to “merge” the PC/tablet GUIs so MS could maintain their grip on PCs, while catching up on tablets, phones, etc.

Make the darn thing RELIABLE and fast first.
If you want to change the user interface, offer a "classic" mode for those who are not inclined to learn how to use a computer all over again.

After Windows Vista, I put Microsoft behind me. I made the switch to Apple, not that i was really drawn to it, but I was just so frustrated with Microsoft. I haven’t really regretted the change.

I only have Win8 (8.1 now...) because my best XP machine was starting hiccup, and I bought one during last year’s black Friday sales.

Windows 8.1 SP2 would be a more accurate name for it

After spending the past two years in damage control mode over Windows 8, Microsoft will officially begin a new era for its OS on Tuesday, when its expected to unveil a preview of Windows next major version during an event focused on enterprise customers. Windows 8 is only two years old next month. Given the short timeframe between 8 and (the announcement of) 9, I fully expect 9 to be little more than 8.2 with an altered paintjob.

I think those things you outlined are EXACTLY what Windows 9 intends to accomplish.

I bought a very nice HP Pavilion laptop a year ago. It had Windows 8 pre-installed by the manufacturer, who had disabled Windows Defender in an effort to get me to purchase a McAfee security product. This OS is totally bullshit unstable, acts freakish all of the time, and never responds the same way twice to the same prompt. I hate it thoroughly. Our other computer, a sweet Gateway (Intel Core 13) desktop, came with Windows 7. It’s been a dream to operate.

Oh BTW, the HP also came with Intel Core 13.

"I made the switch to Apple, not that i was really drawn to it, but I was just so frustrated with Microsoft.",/i>,p> Microsoft is obsessed with marketing and profit. Then again, so is Apple. Ain't it funny that the liberals love them both?

It’s probably more than that. I’ve heard that it can handle an 8k display. There are probably other things.

Yeah!
How dare they.
Imagine a would where companies did that. System 7, and win 3.11 UIs to spare people from new ideas.

Doesn’t matter, SkyNet is OS independent.......
They’ll be back.....

I have to laugh. I truly despise 8 on my wife's laptop, though I rarely have to "help" her with the damn thing these days.
I cruise along with 7 Pro on one machine and XP on another.

A poster much smarter than I am said Windows 9 is really Windows 8.2. What I really want is for Bill Gates to let me download a free, fresh version of Windows 7 to my laptop.

Apple, Amazon and Google are running circles around Microsoft.
Microsoft is going to have to adjust the way they release Windows.
The technology today is moving so fast that even the feds can't keep up with it.
