I am always puzzled by the Windows 8 haters. Windows 8 is basically Windows 7 plus a few performance enhancements plus a “start screen” instead of a start menu plus a tablet friendly mode for apps that want to use that. You can still have your desktop just as before (sans start menu).

What is it about that which is “so egregious” to you? I generally want to understand what people find so objectionable.

“I am always puzzled by the Windows 8 haters...”

“What is it about that which is “so egregious” to you?”

Sheese! Where to begin...

Why did Microsoft stop selling Windows 7 completely when Windows 8 was launched? Aircraft and ships navigation software did not, and does not operate on Windows 8. It was a terrible mistake on the part of Microsoft. They do sell Windows 7 computers now, but only because of the push-back by the business community and their NEED for a Windows 7 based platform.

My first smart phone was a windows 6.5 phone. I loved it. They came out with the next generation of Windows phone and I did not like it at all - I just do not like the tiles in Windows 8. It’s a complete waste of space to me. I, personally, just don’t get the concept.

I had two Mac’s prior to Windows ‘95 being released (and I still have ‘em). I have had virtually every version of Windows on an array of computers over the last 19 years. Computers that I personally bought and paid for myself. The Windows platform is simple to navigate - but NOT in Windows 8. I’m not spending MY money on it.

My clients who have Windows 8.0 machines cannot upgrade to 8.1 - even though it’s free and supposedly can be done. The damn software just will not upgrade, and Microsoft will not make IE 11 available to Windows 8.0 users. Windows 8.0 does NOT have a classic start button - it’s in 8.1 because of consumer demand. My clients with 8.0 have to use third-party software to make their computers work like THEY want and EXPECT them to.

I think that’s egregious enough, don’t you?

It’s not like I am a Microsoft hater, I buy their products (I have three versions of Office Professional - the expensive one) as well as many other Microsoft software products.

Windows 8 is like a bad neighbor.

You are kidding, right?

Everyone except a few true believers, despise, detest and abhor Windows 8. And that’s its good points. Other than that it is a wonderful operating system.

It also frees us from our addiction to our computers. Because it is unusable we can get back to watching the soap operas on television. Time much better spent.

Why did they make me learn a new front end in order to get to my old programs? I don't care a flyin' fig about the new "capabilities". The computer is a tool, for heaven's sake, not the center of my universe or a destination vacation site.

I cannot bear to use Windows 8 without installing one of those programs that reverts back to the normal Windows desktop and start button. But one this is done I have zero problem with windows 8. I have a mix of computers with Windows 7 and Windows 8.

This is how it should be for everyone but they are mouthing anti- Windows 8 propaganda like good sheeple
Plus they are probably unaware of simple free downloads that restore the desktop and start button

Plus they have no idea how to download and install such programs and refuse to get someone to do it for them

Imagine that you just bought a new car.

You hop into the drivers seat and discover that the steering wheel, brake pedal and accelerator pedal are gone.

In their place is a touch screen emblazoned in colors designed to make one nauseous.

The Start switch is in the the glovebox, on page 638B of the owners manual. Written in the “Microsoft Help Clear Prose” language.

That is why we hate Windows 8.

Windows 8 sucked. Windows 8.1 with Classic Shell isn’t bad...but doing the massive downloads to upgrade 8 to 8.1 was not fun, and I shouldn’t need to install aftermarket software to make an OS behave more like the one before. With 8.1 & CS, it is almost like having Windows 7 installed - not quite as nice, but OK.

It also wasn’t fun doing Internet searches to find out how to shut off the corner stuff, or getting some screen up that you did not want and wondering how to get away from MS’s app store...
