CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

A mother said her autistic son will not go back to Ardrey Kell High School after he was handcuffed at school last week.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg School officials said they have to protect the safety of both the student and school staff.

But the outraged mom told Eyewitness News reporter Paige Hansen, she can't imagine any reason where handcuffs would be necessary.

"It breaks my heart for him because he doesn't know. He's trying and that's autism," said Kim Riley.

A family worker has worked years in ER trauma centers and said the only way you can handle the stead flow of traumatic situations is you learn to block it out so that you can do what needs to be done....but when a "special needs" individual comes in it throws the entire medical team unless they sedate them.

I worked in a big city ER for a long time (as administration).Violent, disruptive patients came in all the time.Booze or drugs was sometimes the cause, sometimes it was one form or another of mental/neurological disorder.Regardless of the reason we broke out the leather restraints and tied them down.Violent and unruly patients is one of the main reasons why male nurses (and aides) are so often found working in ERs.

Yes they are....but there’s always a group of people they cannot block their emotions about, rather affects everyone when they are brought in for treatment....abused children.

Our hospital didn't have a pediatric service, manly because there was a major pediatric hospital literally right next door to us.However, there are patients that, for one reason or another,"get to" health care workers. There are more than a few patients that I vividly remember decades after having last encountered them.

My favorite story about my dad is this: Mom and dad went to a steak house for dinner. Another patron of the reaturant choked on his dinner. Dad laid him down and performed a trach with a steak knife and stuck a drinking straw in the hole. Saved the guys life. That was my dad.

The Newtown shooter was autistic.

Haven't you heard? The Newtown shooting never happened! That school was closed long before that false-flag attempt by fed.gov to get all guns banned...those kids were made up! < /sarc >

Me too. My mother in law taught special ed for years and the autistic kids could be dangerous. My mother in-law was spat on, punched, kicked and scratched on s regular basis. The last scratch led to an infection that put her in the hospital and caused her kidney damage that forced her retirement.

I agree that anyone that old should not be in public school any more.

If they qualify for continued public education because of being *special needs* ESPECIALLY autistic for the reasons you mentioned, they should have a special program for them.

They are too disruptive otherwise.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Why has “mainstreaming” of children with obviously divergent educational methodological needs been allowed?

Thanks to the “mainstreaming” of students with issues like autism, they do not get the specialized education they need AND they disrupt the classroom of ‘normal’ students.

“They are vewy, vewy, cwazy.” Mr. Fudd.

PS The ‘cwazy’ I referred to are running the schools.

PPS They are running the schools into the ground.

“Some of them I don’t think it does a bit of good and it’s not their fault I truly believe it’s the school’s fault in not being able to help them.”

It is with great regret that I must inform you that school personnel can also not walk on water.

We are friends with a family in which all three of the children fall in the autism spectrum. The oldest and youngest have the strongest traits. It is baffling. Oddly, they never share any hint that their sons have been diagnosed with autism, but the kids in their class can tell you that they are.

Something must be causing autism, a combination of environmental factors and genetic predisposition maybe? I know we were concerned about our oldest from very young age; he hated cuddling as a baby and had many odd & fussy desires as a toddler. I forced him to endure my many snuggles and kisses and forced him to accept the seam of the sock on his toes, to wear clothes that fit even if the sleeves touched his wrist and the hem of the jeans touched the top of his foot, etc. He still has anger issues but fits in well with his peers.

I have had contact with many families with children on the spectrum and for almost all of them, it's a private pain to them. They cope and overcome as much as they can with love but the damage to their children is there. Drugs and some limited therapy are all that our medical establishment have to offer and as far as I can see, the incidence is increasing.

We had a long run of belief that it could have been caused by the mercury in certain vaccines but we were emphatically and angrily assured that that was impossible by the medical establishment and the drug manufacturers. I'm sure they would be truthful.

That leaves a whole raft of other potential environmental influences in combination with some undiscovered genetic key - and silence from our leaders.

As I noted earlier, we couldn't be more enthusiastic about charging ahead to find a cure for AIDS/HIV and we have finally gotten to the point where people can do almost any disgusting thing with anyone or anything and hold off the deadly effects of their proclivities. But the families whose children are damaged and often incapable of any kind of mature, productive future are almost ignored.

When this epidemic gets to 10% of our children, will they do anything - or do they want us to have children at all?

Sadly, I think you are right with the idea that “they” don’t want us having children.

Sensory Integration issues go hand in hand with autism and Dianne Kraft has done a tremendous amount of work researching the connection between your gut and the levels of serotonin in your brain. We did her anti-fungal regime (not that hard) with our son and we did notice a huge difference. Unfortunately, his asthma meds feed the yeast and fungus in his gut daily and we can’t continually keep up the GSE & probiotics.

At her presentation she showed a graph that charted parents’ evaluations of their autistic child’s behavior when given various drugs. The one drug with by far the most positive impact on behavior was Nystatin-an antifungal prescription.

Heal the gut, you can help heal many behavior issues.
