Sigh....
Those were the days.
Can I get a choco-cocoanut-curry-IPA?
I really hope the Germans have a handle on security. I.S. would love to make a statement there.
Went last year and 2011. We had a great time, and it’s not only beer tents, it’s more like a large state fair. Well, we went mostly for the beer. Augustiner, Spaten and Paulaner, yum. Also they have Lowenbrau but it’s nothing like the Lowenbrau here. Fresh beer is awesome.
My brother in law was in the Air Force in the early 1970s and was stationed in South Korea. He had leave and went to Oktoberfest with some buddies. He told me after two days of steady drinking he woke up on a train in Italy wearing somebody elses jacket. He said it was a tiny little village were the train tracks just ended. The folks of the town helped him and invited him into their homes for home made pizza & wine.
Yes
There is plenty of my favorite B word on this thread.
If you’re in Germany, don’t go to the fest in Munich, as it is just too big and too crowded to have fun. Go to another city, like Stuttgart, where the festival is still large, but not so gigantic.
The very best are smaller towns that hold their own fests, usually with their own brand of locally brewed beer. They have a much better selection of food, and are in it less as a money making exercise than to just have a good time.
When I was living in Germany we did several bier fests, and wine fests.
Beside the good drink, and good food, there was partying with the locals.
This time of year an afternoon drive through rural areas would serve up fests in small villages, in a tent at the edge of town.
