I remember seeing Dead Kennedys at the Urgh concert at Santa Monica Civic Center in early 80s.
Opening band was an amazing crew called Whipping Boy led by a great singer and author named Eugene. Wonder whatever happened to them.
They are coming for your uncool niece
You will jog for the master race
Lol!
Nouvelle Vague. Wow. Surprised to see anyone on FR who is acquainted with them. There are several groups out of France now with a really interesting sound, sort of ethereal but still close enough to contemporary rock, dance etc. to be relatable and enjoyable. Phoenix is one. Wax Tailor is another.
If you have eclectic tastes then you might want to give a listen to Agent Ribbons, sort of an acoustic version of DeVotchKa. Also Tristen, an art-folk-country singer. Her first album is quite good. Then she got crowdfunded and her ego bloated, and the "production values" went up at the expense of authenticity.
There's a chance I might be going to see these freaks just on account of it's a 50/50 chance we're at the End Times and their concerts might just be a front row seat...
Cool. I always seek college stations out wherever I might be. Clear Channel/iHeart bores me to death and autotune vocals make me grit my teeth.
Give this one, Que Sera by Wax Tailor, a spin and tell me what you think:
Sampling to the extreme, both audio and video, but it’s still melodic, atmospheric and has that ethereal quality.
Look for her to be editor of the Harvard or Yale Law Review in 12 to 15 years ... LOL!
After all, when you're ten, you may have to lie to enforce the First!
When Governor Moonbeam was running for president, I repeatedly called the radio station endorsing him, requesting California Uber Alles again and again, since they played Dead Kennedys. It was to no avail - they never played it.
Cool. That was a good audio sample, and one of the best video samples I’ve seen in a while. Some of the combinations were hilarious.
I once heard that the Dead Kennedys were asked by the Kennedy clan to change their name, as it was considered distasteful and insulting (as it was intended). They replied that they would change their name to “Ted’s Next.”
This is probably just an urban legend, but it’s still funny.
ROFLMAO!
Why do punk rock guys go out with new wave girls?

Great Plains - Letter To A Fanzine (1987)
Here’s a little retro-pop with a sort of surfer vibe, from Peter, Bjorn & John, “Let’s Call It Off.”
I haven’t a clue about anything in this thread.
But, I am willing to learn something new!
Loved the confusion about “the man”. I could see the generational difference right there.
I guess you could start here.

Kind of an interesting group.
I liked the DK’s music but never could stand the lead singer’s voice. I assume it was part of the act, but it’s like nails on a blackboard to me.
