Ebola Preparedness kit suggestions thread ~ Vanity
GraceG

Posted on 09/17/2014 11:54:07 PM PDT by GraceG

I am starting this thread to get suggestions on what items would be useful to have at one's house and at the ready for the following scenario.

Initial Conditions:

1. Ebola has started to ravage the United States and many people are already infected with it, many of whom don't even realize yet that they are infected.

2. The the emergency rooms and hospitals are already filled up to the brim with fresh Ebola cases making hospitals a dangerous place to be if you don't already have Ebola and useless in terms of actually helping you any way if you do.

3. There is a good chance you are already exposed and are incubating Ebola in your system and plan on staying home in self quarantine in an attempt to ride out the virus in the slim hope you will survive.

Now after reading up on Ebola and what the "experts" say one of the factor i thought was interesting would be that we in the United States stand a higher chance of surviving due to nutrition factors. This is what is prompting me to make List of what items culd be most useful in this scenario. Based off my limited scientific understanding I am thinking the following items would be very good to have.

Items to have and reasons to have them:

1. Drinks with a High Electrolyte content, such as Gatorade, Poweaide or even Pedialite. Reason: this is based off the idea that a lot pf people with Ebola and the associated illness tend to be losing a LOT of liquid during the whole bleeding otu of everywhere phase.

2. An AntiEmetic agent such as Emetrol, maybe Benadryl, or even Marijuana (if you are in Colorado or Washington state). Reason: People in stages of the Ebola tend to throw up a LOT and this vomiting weakens their system to the point of where combined with the fluid loss hastens or even can cause their demise from the fever stage.

3. Easy to eat canned foods, specifically canned chicken noodle soup. Reason: power may be unavailable to cook food such as soups from boxes and if sick as dog with Ebola having a can of chicken soup to eat even if it is cold will help along with the electrolyte drinks may help with the loss of nutrients that the vomiting and possibly diarrhea in the bad stages of the infection.

4. Cold/Flu Medication. Reason: Anything that can lessen the symptoms of fever and help make a person feel better to not be throwing up all the time is a good thing, I think. I am still not sure what medicines OTC would work best against Ebola symptoms if any, but the anti-emetic properties of things like Benadryl may be helpful with the vomiting issue.

5. Chewable or liquid vitamins. Reason: Due to nutrient loss keeping vitamin levels up may be a helpful thing to do to boost your immune system as it attempts to fight off this horrible disease. Not sure if with the nausea if gummy vitamins would work or not. Since the internal organs (meaning digestive tract) may be bleeding internally not sure if a regular (bed pan bullet) type vitamin would even be absorbed I have reasoned that chewable vitamins or liquid vitamins would be best in terms of vitamins. For extra doses of vitamin C maybe consider eating cans of frozen Orange Juice Concentrate, but I have concerns about the increased acidity. I think having immune boosting vitamins such a A, C, E and Vitamin D3 would be a very good idea just in case.

So that is my list so far of helpful items to have on hand in case the SHTF on this whole Ebola thing. Please add to this if you have any good suggestions and let me know if I am completely wrong on anything I have posted above.

1. Don’t go to Liberia.

2. If you find yourself in Liberia, do not handle the blood of Ebola patients or those who have died of Ebola.

“Ebola Preparedness kit suggestions”

1. Close Borders. Permanently.

2. Quarantine anyone with it, indefinitely.

3. Remove from power those with the audacity to have let the first infected one in.

No “can-opener” needed.

No sugar, including Gatorade.

Lots of cheap powdered ascorbic acid for the bulk of the daily vitamin c (many g a day, working up to as much as the bowels can tolerate) and Liposomal vitamin C for quick acting power. But expensive. Enough vitamin c could prevent the virus from taking hold.

Now, before it’s necessary, take vitamin d3 in moderately high dose for a couple months and then get tested. If it’s not over 60, take more, wait a couple months and test again. If there is a viral outbreak, take enough d3 to get the levels over 70 - up to 100.

Make lots of bone broth for the freezer. Use your chicken carcasses and grass fed beef bones and some vegetables like on on, garlic, leeks, and anything else you like. Vinegar to get as much goodness out of the bones as possible.

Good suggestions. Been well over 20 years since my last throw up. Found that bread and crackers can help keep the contents down. Definitely had the urges.

A local newspaper had an article about the doctor from Holden, MA (right next door to me) that is recovering from Ebola in Nebraska. I asked the question, “What’s to say that he is just going into remission and still carries the virus, which has gone dormant. He could still pass it to others, right?”

Nobody answered the question.

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

“2. If you find yourself in Liberia, do not handle the blood of Ebola patients or those who have died of Ebola.”

3. Do not ride in any public transportation in Liberia. Public transportation there is currently a red hot spot for infection.

Seriously, read up on fomites. You need only contact the bodily fluids of an ebola patient. OR something those fluids have touched. Like a doorknob. That’s how one of the Nigerian medicos got it. From a doorknob.

I had wondered about this, would the sugar free version of Gatoraid / poweraide be better or worse?

Bleach. Something to spray it with, plastic and duct tape.

If you or someone in your house gets infected, you also have to look at what happens god forbid if they pass. You cannot move the body, no one is coming for the body, which means wherever they die, the area has to be sterilized as best as possible and sealed.

Cold reality.

You forgot PPEs....gonna need alot of FRESH bleach (or for long term storage-pool shock).....rubber gloves, rubber boots, P100 or better respirator (Best=Millenium CBRNE mask and filters all the way down to N95 (minimal). Tyvek "F" suits for those of us that will be operating in an ebola environment such as getting food, gas, etc.

YOu'll have to set up your own DECON station, like turning your mud room or entry into a decon zone.

EVERYTHING goes into a 10-20% bleach solution in a tub. I have boot mats that can hold a few cups of bleach that I use to keep germs from getting into the house from the bottom of your shoes.

You are going to need 90-120 days of food MINIMUM until the virus burns out. If you own a business, talk to your IT now setting you up for working from home if you are in that type of profession.

God forbid you actually are incubating ebola, best thing to do (if the hospitals are full) is to prep a room in your house for ebola. Get a 21 day supply of liquids and food, a large trash can, paper plates, spoons, bowls, straws, and a cipon.

In case of the worst: Get a body bag, sleep on plastic sheets (so your loved ones can wrap your dead ass up)and grab 2 buckets to puke and crap in. You'll be in there by yourself and NO one will come into the room for 21 days. If you die, your family should have an funeral pyre built somewhere on the property in advance. They'll also need to prep a burn barrell for your clothes, sheets, etc.

Family and friends are NOT to enter the room once you get a headache/fever. They are not to feed you, not to clean you, not to comfort you. Open the window and if you survive, throw everything into the large trash can (55gal) and burn it. come in 21 days later and use 100% bleach on EVERYTHING.

After you survive. Have someone draw your blood as serum and give it to your blood matching relatives.

Don't kiss, hug, or have sex for 6 months as ebola is known to stay in cuticles (toe jam), plaque, semen, and ear wax for MONTHS after infection.
