I was going to make a snarky joke about the American’s propensity for mangling the English language, then I noticed to my shame that it was a British news site. How embarrassing.

Brings to mind the common speech of “Idiocracy”.
Anyone who spoke the English language with some degree of proficiency was “talking like a fag”.
