HOUSTON --The trial of an MD Anderson cancer doctor accused of poisoning her lover's coffee got off to an explosive start Monday morning. Prosecutors say Dr. Ana Maria Gonzalez-Angulo had a fatal attraction.
"Evidence will show she became totally obsessed with him and wanting him," said prosecutor Justin Keiter.
Bombshell revelations were made within the first few minutes of the trial. Prosecutors say Dr. George Blumenschein had a pregnant longtime live-in girlfriend, at the same time he started an affair with Dr. Gonzalez-Angulo. They told jurors that relationship soured, providing a motive for Gonzalez to lace her lover's coffee with ethylene glycol, commonly found in anti-freeze.
"She convinces him to try (a) special Colombian coffee that she has," said Keiter. "She insists he try it."
Blumenshein had left his girlfriend's home on January 27th to go have breakfast with Gonzalez. After drinking the coffee that morning, the couple engaged in oral sex, followed by a shot of vodka.
The defense says that's proof this was a consensual love affair from beginning to end.
"This description of fatal attraction is completely hyperbole or exaggerations," said defense attorney Andy Drumheller.
Hours after drinking the sweetened coffee, Blumenschein began to feel ill.

MD Anderson doctors testified about concerns with the cancer doctors' intimate relationship and where it might lead.
"I was worried that George was emotionally unavailable, and I was worried Anna would get hurt," said Meric-Bernstam.

It disgusts me to read of a doctor shacking up, AND screwing - including more deviant forms - another woman, also a doctor!
How can I trust a doctor who is so immoral, never mind how many different germs there may be flying around?

I saw it too. My thoracic surgeon cut through my ribcage, reached inside my chest, and pulled out something prettier than that.
I might’ve said proctologist, but yours is kinder.
He was going for the lung, so I didn’t think the proctologist was the best man for the job. But now, whenever my ribcage hurts, I’ll think of your post, and realize it could have been worse. Thank you for that. :)
