The relieving forces under Viceroy of Sicily drove the
Ottoman army off the island

The Knight of St John had resisted a siege all summer repulsing numerous attack and suffering heavy losses

Only few hundred men remained able to resist when siege was broken

Good to see these historic events mentioned repeatedly . I first learned of the events at Malta, here, at FreeRepublic"> in 2007, which linked to a Daily Mail article. Better late, than never, eh?

During the siege of Malta the leader of the Knights of St. John was John Parisot de Vallete. He actively joined and participated with his men. He was 70 yrs old and that was in 1565. That was the original “Get off my lawn” type of guy
