Just damn...he’s in a dementia care facility now. Won’t be too much longer, unfortunately.
I’ve kept reel-to-reel tapes I recorded of “The Good Time Hour”, back in 1971-72. Hours of listening pleasure. Alzheimers doesn’t affect one’s musical abilities; however, songs can be repeated over and over by the artistwithout realizing itbut to most Glen Campbell listeners, they don’t care. :)
this says so much about the spirit and music over the mind and matter. thanks for the post.
Always loved Glen..loved Wichita Lineman. And the Wichita lineman is still on the liiiine.... :)
“Wichita Lineman” is a song written by American songwriter Jimmy Webb in 1968. It was first recorded by American country music artist Glen Campbell and widely covered by other artists. Campbell’s version, which appeared on his 1968 album of the same name, reached #3 on the U.S. pop chart, remaining in the Top 100 for 15 weeks. In addition, the song also topped the American country music chart for two weeks, and the adult contemporary chart for six weeks. It was certified gold by the RIAA in January 1969. The song reached #7 in the UK. In Canada, the single also topped both the RPM national and country singles charts.
In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” ranked “Wichita Lineman” at #192. It has been referred to as “the first existential country song”.
Interviewer: "How's the Alzheimer's coming along Glen?
Glen: "Oh well that's fine ya know...gave him a left hook."
Damn fine music, back in the day. Best of Luck, Glen.
Wow, Bro! Thanks. Didn’t know it was THAT popular!
Thanks for posting this. I love Glen Campbell so much, this is bringing a tear to my eye.
Turn Around, Look at Me (1961)
My mother told me that I adopted his haircut when I was little (<7), and I didn't change it until college. I do remember being a fan. Him and "The Rifleman" were my childhood heroes. I guess I wasn't into the hippie thing. 8-)
You’re not alone in both regards. Very sad.
Always liked “By the Time I Get to Phoenix”.
I remember seeing Glen Cambell on the Mike Douglas Show telling a story about punching John Lennon.
