Here's the thing ...
A video is leaked to the NFL office. A leaked voice mail confirms its arrival but that AP report also confirms the delivery was unofficial. Recipient says "it's bad." OK, so the video was seen. If we take all that at face value, that's what we know and the next is supposition.
Recipient of video gets in touch with office counsel.Now, is what Goodell said false? He said they asked for the tape numerous times. So obviously they knew there was a tape. But there is a CBA and we've had cases where arbitration undid what the league was trying to do, right? Obviously this is a critical situation and Goodell had a duty to his owners to do the investigation right. So far, I see nothing inconsistent in his statements. Not enough to call for his head."Hey, Mr. Lawyer, I just got this elevator video of Ray Rice. It's bad."
"Really, where did it come from? Do we know it is real?"
"Well, no, but he says he is a cop."
"What agency?"
"[whatever]."
"Have we asked them for it officially?"
"Yes, and they said no. I think someone there thought it was bad enough that they leaked it to us."

The tape may be important, but we have to have chain-of-evidence and receive it through channels to use it. If we do this wrong, we could actually get it thrown out in arbitration. We know the authorities have passed on prosecuting Rice. Without that to fall back upon, we could lose the 2 game suspension on appeal. Look, I'm going to reassert our formal request. All else is hearsay."
And this feeding frenzy to get at the "truth" of the Ray Rice situation? OK, that's the "investigative journalism" to which we've become accustomed. Watergate. Dumpster diving in Wasilla. What did Goodell know and when did he know it? Standard stuff.
So, Mainstream Media, does not the absence of that typical rabid press inquiry also stand out? Can't we spot it when it is missing? When it is missing, doesn't it make one wonder "what does the press know and when did they know it?" Why do they choose to remain oblivious to certain questions like "Benghazi, where was Øbama that night?" or "who is Øbama, why does he spend millions to hide his background?"

Roger Goodell is not a public servant. The NFL is no government agency. He serves at the pleasure of the owners. And will continue to do so until his presence hurts their bottom line, which ain't gonna happen.

Reason: how will the official corporate sponsors of the NFL react to this controversy? If the big sponsors like Annheuser-Busch InBev, Visa USA, McDonald's, GM, Frito-Lay, PepsiCo and so on start to complain and/or start to pull NFL-related advertising campaigns, the jig is up for Roger Goodell just like when advertisers started to pull out of advertising for the Los Angeles Clippers, a huge factor in forcing Donald Sterling out as team owner.
Then he now knows that there’s a second tape, but made no effort whatsoever to get an “official” copy? Still just another version of “I can’t hear you, I can’t hear you...”
Does anyone actually believe TV ratings for the NFL will suffer? Unless that happens, this is just another case of social engineers (otherwise known as the lib sports media) advocating change in the form of victimhood.
If ratings don’t drop, advertisers will stand pat. Soon, another scandal will displace this one.

Funny. This was the same argument I was making to the media-hypnotized robots I work with. First of all, the perp-in-question’s career in the NFL is over. He already got paid. From the moment the case started, he never played a regular season game.
And he won’t.
Okay, so let’s try to make an even bigger deal out of this saying that someone in the NFL office ‘should have known - and don’t something earlier’. So here’s the big question, sports fans: If the NFL would have acted earlier, what would have been the outcome?
Ans: His NFL career would be over, and he would have never played a regular season game. He already got paid.
So what more do you want, America? You want someone lined up facing torches and pitchforks, or do you want football?
And you idiots in the media news rooms who think this game better remember what drives your autumn ratings as well as the promotions for all your other stupid programs.
Goodell, despite my other opinions about some of his actions, you simply say this story is over and move on - else the NFL will be plagued with scandal after scandal.
