Missing 6-Year-Old (Autistic Boy)Found at Homeless Encampment
NBC Bay Area ^ | Sunday, Sep 7, 2014

A missing six-year-old autistic boy was found Sunday morning following a frantic search, the San Jose Police Department said.

Police confirmed Sergio Zepeda was found safe and has been reunited with his family.

Zepeda was found at approximately 4:13 a.m. after a man living in a homeless encampment called police to report a child had stumbled into an area where several people were staying.

A child is missing and finding him will be especially hard. That is because he has autism and cannot speak. Crews are searching in the area of Rorty Drive, just east of Highway 87. NBC Bay Area’s Christie Smith reports from the neighborhood with more.

Several people at the encampment provided food and shelter to Zepeda until officers arrived and took custody of him. Mayor: Oakland Will Not Host Urban Shield Next Year

Police said Zepeda was provided medical attention at the scene and was later transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure. Police said it does not appear any crime was committed in the child's disappearance.

Are these homeless people...or Hobos. Hobos are usually a better class of people.

I’ve talked to a lot of homeless people and most would not hurt a child and most would try and protect them from harm.

I do believe calls to 911 from pay phones are free.

I assume that’s how it was done. Or maybe an Obamaphone, as was said.

They may not have all the latest bells aand whistles, but prepaid cell phones and additional time cards for them can be purchased at many retail stores (WalMart, Target, etc.) for not a lot of cash. Well within the panhandling/bottle refund cash generating capabilities of the homeless (who, BTW, may also be receiving some form of welfare benefits).

Along with normal users, the prepaid has been a favorite method of communication for drug dealers, terrorists, and others concerned about communicating without leaving an extensive trail (electronic or credit). (Terrorists, of course, also rig them to detonaate bombs.)

Cheap enough to be thrown away as frequently as necessary (or left for someone else to find), it can still be tracked when powered (even if off). Just make sure to buy one with a removable battery and actually pull the battery out when not using it.

Of course, once the number is known...if that concerns you ... time for a new cell phone.
