I guessing these available job positions are 1/2 of the jobs Obama created. And the other 1/2 are on disability.

jobs posted on dice are not unique jobs

multiple headhunters will get the job listing and post it to multiple boards trying to find an applicant capable of landing it.

I wouldn’t trust those numbers

then again, I trust NOTHING that comes out of this govt

My little group has a couple of open positions, but we can’t get anybody with the skills we need. We’ve been looking for a couple of months.

Employer Mandate on the horizon.

With all the money Bathhouse Barry gave to “The Man” you’d think they could take on some new hires.

True. Virtually all employers these days are looking for 100% qualified candidate with years of experience, who can do two distinct jobs previously held by three or more people, and they want to pay that person less than they used to pay any of the three they let go in 2009. Oh, that and a degree.

My group at work is down to 60% staffing because the requirements of the HR department and upper management have made the job unfillable.

Many times, companies list ‘job openings’ during their request-for-proposal period to determine the skill levels that may be available. Those are not real jobs yet — only potential jobs, if the RFP gets approved.

Also, many times, a company may plan to hire from within, but will run job openings to meet state/FED reporting requirements.

How does one count a ‘job opening’ that a company is not attempting or willing to fill?

1. Job openings are easily duplicated across many job boards, inflating the number of “openings” relative to actual positions that are open.
2. Putting out positions and then not hiring any Americans for months is justification for an HB-1 visa hire. So they post the positions but don’t want to pay American rates, so it takes a long time to fill as they wait for the half-price American.
3. Companies that actually want to hire can be choosy in such a down market, so they take the time to find the perfect candidate.
4. Companies think they can find the jack of all trades candidate, who can really fill three jobs while they fill only one. So they post a position with impossible to meet criteria hoping to find a literal Mr. Know it all.
5. Millions looking for work, millions more not in the job market, wages have to fall to find the new set-point. Personal debt levels and rising cost of living expenses (food, utilities, medical care) mean people cannot take a pay cut, delaying a downward adjustment in wages that would eventually lead to more hiring.

Come to SW Pennsylvania if you have a CDL. Water truck tanker drivers are making 80 grand a year.

We’re actually pretty flexible, if you have the basics you can learn the rest of the job, if you’re willing to work hard.

We’re definitely not 9 to 5, but the pay reflects this.

Or maybe because someone with a degree in womyn’s or homosexual studies is not qualified to program a computer or design a part for a car, no matter how enlightened that degree made its holder feel.

... add to those a media looking for any possible way to be able to claim that the current economy is producing jobs, its those damn employers who are screwing things up by refusing to hire.

The MSM is pulling the same kind of crap blaming people for sowing the economy by 'hoarding' money, or greedy insurers jacking up health policy premiums, etc. Its never the government's fault.

People are not qualified for the open jobs.

Those that the unemployed are qualified for, they refuse to do as they can simply stay on welfare and make same $

Welcome to Obama’s world.

Unfortunately the lure to overseas work is scalping this nation of some of our best.....even among construction workers and those with skills favorable to those positions abroad are leaving.
