He did indeed. It was a monster hit at the time, probably his biggest as it resonated on both sides of the border.

I love the Edmund Fitzgerald. The second verse always gives me the shivers:

When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck

Sayin' "Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya"

At seven PM a main hatchway caved in

The captain wired in he had water comin' in

And the good ship and crew was in peril

That song came out when I was in college. Loved it then, love it still. It was always a way to get your quarter’s worth out of the jukebox back in the day.
