The entire area where I live is over mines. I live in an old coal mine ‘patch town’. In fact, my house - one of the only two houses that were single-family houses - was where the mine foreman lived. I told Mr. S we should consider mine-subsidence insurance.

You should! We have it (even though maps show our street NOT undermined—but remember the original maps were made 130+ years ago).

A few more “collapse” stories will be coming out, due to the combination of undermining (very common) coupled w/use of bad fill (the big culprit). A lot of residential and commercial buildings went up very quickly in the 50s/early 60s...along with roads
