Yes, it can be a germ zone. I change my cat’s box twice a week and wear plastic gloves to clean it out. I use a clean plastic scooper each time. She goes when I take her in there. I don’t leave the kitty mess in the pan (which I use liners) like some people do/ leave it there for days......Ackkk.

How do you clean the scooper each time? Or are there disposable ones? After scooping mine can be yucky I don’t even want to touch it. I tried wiping with sanitizer cloths but it doesn’t get the clingy bits off. I can’t use liners because the cats claw to hide their poop and end up ripping it.

I never knew anything about cats when I ended up with 4 of them. Now three:( But I cannot stand the litterbox cleaning, nor the smell in the house after they’ve just used it. I don’t even really have a place to put all the boxes, they are in a spare room that we would someday like to make into a nice bedroom but I can’t because I don’t have any other “out of the way” spot for the darn smelly boxes. Other than that I love the kitties and couldn’t bear to put them in a shelter so I just live with the frustration:(
