Ashya King found in Spain as father speaks in video

A five-year-old boy with a brain tumour who was removed from a UK hospital by his parents has been found in Spain.

Ashya King was taken to a hospital in Malaga and his parents arrested, Hampshire police said.

His father Brett King defended his actions in a video posted on YouTube, saying the family were seeking a treatment Ashya had not been offered.

His disappearance from Southampton General Hospital on Thursday sparked an international search.

Hampshire Constabulary said it had obtained a European arrest warrant on the grounds of neglect. The five-year-old had been removed from hospital against medical advice.

In the video Mr King said his son was doing well, indicated a machine used to feed him was operating normally and called for the "ridiculous chase" to be called off.

Support for the parents' actions has also been voiced by some users of social media.

Mr King said he and his wife, Naghemeh, had been seeking proton beam radiotherapy for Ashya - a treatment that targets tumours directly - because they did not want him to be "pelted with radiation".

"Proton beam is so much better for children with brain cancer," Mr King said in the video.

Who does the child belong to - the parents or the State?

Well, now you can be arrested for not accepting SUB-STANDARD medical care from the government and going elsewhere for better treatment?

Folks, coming to an ObamaCare treatment center near you.

As soon as they enter a hospital, the state, and their agents the doctors, apparently.

I heard a bit about this on the BBC last night. They said the parents were arrested “even though it wasn’t clear if they had broken any laws”.

Big government at its best. The parents are in jail, the child is alone in a hospital in a strange country and probably terrified. I didn’t hear any information as to where the child’s brother is. But the authorities gave a press conference patting themselves on the back for tearing a family apart.

That is an excellent way to describe this.

It’s not like they are taking the kid for some nonsense treatment.

Proton beam therapy targets the tumor much more effectively and is considered best for children who are still growing and will therefore receive greater side effects from a less targeted radiation.

But, it costs twice as much or more than other treatment.

The parents should have said they were selling him to a pedophile sex ring. Then they wouldn’t have to fear being arrested.

This scares me more than vampires!

What can good people do for their child if they were in this position here (USA, private insurance)? Can we refuse substandard treatment here? Can we refuse standard sucky treatment if there is better out there but not yet passed the FDA or something? What are our rights?

Why does he think his child has a right to better care than the rest of Britain? I mean, it’s not like he’s royalty or a member of Parliament. /s

Average medical treatment for everyone should be the motto of the NHS.
