Because Springsteen is from New Jersey.

I suspect a lot of folks give Neil Young a pass because he's a Canadian, which means we may hate his politics but don't take the politics as personally as we do when we're dealing with an American leftist.

Way, way back in about 1972, I was at the Palomino Club in North Hollywood one night - the locals were playing - Jackson Browne, Neil Young and Linda Ronstadt. Buck Owens walked in and was called to the stage for a few songs. You never heard music until you've seen Neil Young playing and Linda Ronstadt singing with Buck Owens

The joint went stark raving mad.

“Nebraska “ doesn’t suck but a lot of his stuff really stinks

All three of the Young songs you named and linked video to are great tunes.

But there are at least 10 Neil Young songs that are better.

"Rockin' in the Free World" live on SNL is one of my favorite performances ever. Next month will be 25 years since that show.

Maybe because Springsteen sucks ?

I know he is or was very very popular, but musically and lyrically ?

Not even in the same ball park.

I can't really understand a serious music fan thinking that but I guess there's no accounting for taste.

After listening to Springsteen for years I finally figured out that the world has him all wrong. Many of his most popular tunes really aren't very good, and yet he has some others that you've hardly ever heard on the radio and never make any lists of his best.

Two that immediately come to mind are "New York City Serenade" and "Racing In The Street." In fact, The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle and Darkness on the Edge of Town are two of his less famous albums but have a few gems hidden on them.

That’s a great story. Interestingly, there’s a place called the Palomino Club in Winnipeg — where Neil Young spent a lot of his childhood — that’s been the proving grounds for a lot of Canadian rock and country artists.

Then you have the Neil Young-Ian Tyson (+Sylvia) connections as in “Four Strong Winds”

One of the loveliest songs ever

I like Springsteen as a musician even though I disagree with him politically. I have quite a few favorite artists, all of whom are flaming liberals. Really tough to find a conservative artist and I’m not going to boycott a performer because of his politics. I need some music and entertainment in my life.

I totally agree. Politics aside, Springsteen in a fantastic musician and songwriter. And his live shows are just unbelievable. Anyone who ever went to a Bruce Springsteen concert definitely got his money’s worth.

I saw that show and stayed up late for it. What a contrast with today where we can pluck any shows and tunes out of the ether, any time we want. From youtube, or your personal cloud etc etc

Beautiful tune, that is. And that’s the official song of the Canadian province of Alberta, too!

No kidding. I like(d) him (in the 70s), but his music really was dark & depressing. I really didn’t follow him very much after that.
