I was a boy from the suburbs of Boston when I arrived at Ft Knox in '69.Most of the guys in my BCT company were from Texas,Tennessee and Mississippi.A couple of the guys from Texas told me about having "encounters" with livestock.To this day I don't know if they were joking or were serious.

That reminds me of a line in the novel (albeit not in the film) “The Silence of the Lambs.” Hannibal Lecter, a psychiatrist, had fooled his hated jailer, Frederick Chilton, by telling Chilton that the serial killer was “Bllly Rubin.” But it hadn’t yet been made clear that this was a big joke by Lecter.

Later, with the still undiscovered, Lecter has been moved to the huge cage in Tennessee talking to Agent Starling. She’s not supposed to be there, and Chilton, with several guards, stops their conversation. In parting, Lecter tells Clarice (so that Chilton can hear), “Did you know Dr. Chilton has no medical degree?” Dr. Lecter said. “Please bear that in mind later on.” Meanwhile, Chilton is giving all manner of news interviews on his glorious “Search For Billy Rubin.”

When Lecter busts out of the holding cell, he leaves a drawing in his toilet. It’s the word CHILTON with some numbers added in, meaning C33H36N4O6, bilirubin.
