I dumped TV in 1997. Then I was on a business trip with satellite radio and heard a theme song to a movie, Serenity, where a girl says, “we meddle...”. The political ramifications were so powerful that I went to Blockbuster to rent the movie.

The clerk was a huge fan and said we needed to watch at least one episode of the TV show “Firefly” first to understand the characters. So I rented a first season disk.

I then bought the series and have watched it many times. The characters are outstanding - and one of the most powerful moments I’ve ever seen in any TV series is in one of those episodes. It is a truly amazing show. And the movie really tied it up with a bow.

Which was that? I'll have to get them again on Netflix.

That powerful scene ... It was the one where Jayne says “You held a riot, in my honor?” and starts crying. Admit it, it was, wasn’t it?

:-)

The main character, Mal, is very well written.

He’s a reluctant soldier who watched a lot of friends die in an war that was justified yet failed. Hard to write that type and keep him “real”. The show is in a way, people living their lives in the fallout of a war lost to a corrupt government.

Maybe I’m lost, but wasn’t the ‘first season’ disk the same as the ‘series’ disk?

Unbelievable that it died so quickly.

Not the level of Firefly, but Syfy’s Defiance is incredibly good.

Young River: People don’t like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don’t run, don’t walk. We’re in their homes and in their heads and we haven’t the right. We’re meddlesome.

“I aim to misbehave”
I still use those quotes sometimes.

Season 1, Episode 13 “Heart of Gold.” The scene where Inara breaks down sobbing following Mal’s night with Nandi in the brothel.

A Family Friend who does CGI worked on Firefly.

The scene with the Fleet coming out of the Cosmic Cloud near the end of the Movie took him and others on the CGI team months to button up.

I think the entire shot lasted seven seconds in the Movie.
