These fishermen were thinking shark was on the main course for dinner. However, one grouper fish only saw it as an appetizer.

I was shocked! I had no idea groupers could get that big or that they were in competition with sharks as an apex predator!

Their original name was Jewfish.They were renamed a few years ago and now we are supposed to call them "Goliath" Grouper. They are a protected species right now but they have screwed up the eco system of the Gulf of Mexico so bad some fishermen are beginning to kill them anyway.
They can grow to be 600-800 lbs. and will literally eat anything that is hooked on a Gulfside wreck by a fisherman. Problem nowadays is that they are eating other gamefish, juvenile grouper, crawfish,permit,spawning snook and other fish.
Bag and size limits need to be opened up but no one can come up with a good formula.

I was living in Corpus Christi when I was 5 and we went out on a jetty at night and saw two full grown men trying to navigate a wheelbarrow with one of these monsters in it and over it and around it. I have no idea of the weight but knew I could easily fit right inside of it at the time.
