Why do the Feds have a say in what local schools serve as lunches and snacks, anyway?

When one deals with the Federal government there are always, in all ways, strings attached.

In this instance it derives from the school districts receiving aid for their breakfast/lunch programs. Schools receive government reimbursements for serving the 'free' breakfast/lunches to those in need. The Government also provides free food commodities in the form of cheese/dairy/grains..etc

Appears many school district are extremely dependent on this financial arrangement for their school nutrition program remaining solvent. Or perhaps, if recent numerous articles regarding school lunch programs are to be believed, times are a'changing. News of school district losing tens upon tens of thousands of dollars due to the revised, reformulated, recalculated Government mandated lunch offerings no longer being purchased by students.

There are current situations wherein school districts are now forgoing Gov dollars, exiting the 'Gov' lunch programs...simply stating they can no longer afford the losses in lunch revenue.

Therefore some schools are no longer receiving or more truthful, refusing financial reimbursements, refusing gov food commodities. Certainly their revenue will take a hit. But it appears it may be worth it to rid themselves of Michelle's overbearing, hypocritical dictates on how we are to act/eat/think. Those schools now possess the ability to provide their own menus, own diets, own snacks.

Dealing with the Government...one has to remember the old adage...
when sleeping with dogs, you'll get fleas.
