Stupid movies showing people conversing inside a flying C-130 always tee me off. No freaking way could you hold a normal conversation.
At least you could stretch your legs when riding on jump seats. Depending on the flight crew you could lay down and sleep on the floor.
This configuration is nice. It really sucked when the center aisle seats were set up. Worst place to be then was in the left side wheel well seats. No legroom and pax and crew going aft to the facilities stepping all over your toes.
That would be preferable to the last time I flew commercial a couple weeks ago. So uncomfortable and cramped, took a day or two for my back to feel right again.
I still fly on those occasionally. Flying on totally full ones out of Baghdad in the summer gave me a good baseline to compare other flights to. Sitting on the tarmac at 125 degrees waiting for take off made me appreciate the commercial planes.
Scariest flight i’ve been on was a C130 net seat coming into Nellis AFB. Their approach was like, get over the runway and drop.
I remember flying into Bosnia in that configuration. I thought the pilots were trying to screw that plane into the runway. Then taking off with the extraction flights. The two passengers on the extraction ate their inflight meals before takeoff, were almost overhead and I thought they were going to puke on me.
THAT’S flying!
“I used to fly C130 cargo bay class:”
Been there, done that.
