The thugocracy just has to have rumor and "dey sayin'" stories to justify their pillaging and rampaging. If the police chief had released information sooner, at least it might have kept the Obammunist lickspittle media from fanning the flames so much. Might have kept some knee-jerk cop-hating FReepers from convicting the officer in the court of uninformed public opinion, too.

What you say makes sense in some ways. However, since the liberals and race baiters and anarchist types decided to start riots over this situation, such an approach of calmly waiting for an investigation and facts became impossible.
