Obama said he wanted a civilian police force as well armed and funded as the military.

Just imagine if all that equipment had been transferred to border states to be used for “border-policing”...

Keep the contract suppliers happy so they keep funneling cash to the political successors of John Murtha.

And how many billions worth of weapons and equipment have we put in the enemies hands either directly or through our “allies”?

They don’t really own it. Ubama is just staging it around the country for future use by his civilian army.

Obama is outraged. He found about it on the news like we did. He’s investigating it to get to the bottom of it.

Right, but NO weapon for YOU!

This whole thing is going in the wrong direction and the last thing America needs is some kind of hand-picked Praetorian body of guys around a BS and strictly Anti-American ‘President’.

So far it is all one-sided.

For once, I want to know if ANY small town LEOs questioned and refused the equipment.

Well, I guess that's one way around the Posse Comitatas law. It says the regular military can't be used against american citizens, but don't think it says anything about civiians with military gear. Witness Waco. Military planned it. Military gave em the gear. Military gave em the vehicles. Military gave em the weapons. But it was a civilian op doncha know.

The US Govt is the BIGGEST liar on the planet, BAR NONE! (And there's some pretty big liars on the world scene)

Obama said he wanted a civilian police force as well armed and funded as the military.

I'd say he has exceeded his goal. We now have non profits collecting contributions to properly equip our troops deployed in hostile zones.

Troops Direct

Doing what the DoD FAILS to do. Shameful.

Since nearly all police forces are unionized and thereby overwhelmingly Democrat, a case could be made of the formation of a national political police force. Like the SS.

Our rural community holds an annual Cruise night. The event consists of antique and hot cars that are on display as well as a band and local food vendors. At 7 pm everyone watches the cars go around the block.

This year an armored vehicle surrounded by squad cars were in the middle of the square. The police were in riot gear and did not allow teens to ‘gather.’

Needless to say it was VERY unnerving. I left with an ominous feeling...

His civilian army who will be made up of?

...

Militarized local police.

Obama did not start the trend towards having our police be a standing army, but he’s doing a fine job of expanding and perpetuating it.

I don’t know if my local sheriff has overtly refused this equipment, but he has not attempted to obtain any of it.

And with his somewhat libertarian leanings (”let the state guys set up radar traps and write speeding tickets, my deputies have better things to do with their time”) I doubt he will.

With the rates that defense contractors bill DOD for stuff, that $4.3 billion ads up to what; a couple of shipping containers of toilet seats, milspec hammers, and some spiffy made-in-china berets?

More than likely, all of the stuff being offered is obsolete, broken, worn out, and would have likely been dispositioned as scrap. There may have been a few gems in that pile, but it’s still a pile.

As long as the thugs and gangs act like ISIS, the police should be equipped like the military.
