I carry concealed a nice glock .40. Fits female hand great, but want a short barrel home invasion shotgun loaded for bear. Any recommendations on a reliable, relatively light-weighted weapon? Brand? Model? Thanks!

I heard the Mossberg was a little easier to handle than the Remington. I guess I need to “prefer” the Rem unless the Mossberg is greatly better for me to handle.

I’ve got a Mossburg 12 gauge, the ‘Maverick’ with the ‘Remington’ safety on the trigger-guard, not on the top of the receiver.
I removed the stock so I could put on a top-folding ATI stock with attached extra shell clips. And I got an 18 1/2” barrel (Cabelas?) and pistol grip too.
If you aren’t very big you might try that rig in a 20 gauge. Racking a shotguns slide is like putting a laser on a sternum: it should make intruders re-think their plan,
but if not, they should be put down pretty quickly by a 20 gauge loaded with buckshot.
Better them than you, right? You need to be able to answer that before going any further.
Remington and Winchester will get a lot of ‘nods’ on this one, but I’ve had extremely good luck with the less expensive Mossberg 500, in 12 ga. Current ones I use are eight shot mag tubes, and I install pistol grips and new forends (Pachmyr Vindicator kits are my choice). Also, I stack the mags, alternating 00-buckshot with deer slugs, with a deer slug out first.
Utas 15, ksg by keltec, a remington, or a mossy would all do fine.
Falls under “just what are you comfortable holding/how much space is available to use it in”.
Try a bunch and see which one feels the best for you. I always recommend doing the following; hold the gun at rest and fix your eyes on a “target”. Then close your eyes, and bring the gun to shooting position pointing where you remember the target to be, and open your eyes. If it feels comfortable and is aimed at the target, you have a winner.
As for action, either pump or semi auto is fine. Semis shoot slightly faster and have less felt recoil. Pumps are cheaper and slightly more reliable.
I would also shorten the string so that it cannot possibly touch any part of the trigger guard.
Got a 180 pound Old English mastiff snoring beside me every night. Want a pump action, short barrel, chambered. I want to grab and GO FIND. Open space but still a house. No vests, I’m thinking jammies and what was that noise...Suggestions?
The Beretta Xtrema 2 doesn’t hardly have any recoil.
A shotgun, preferably a pump-action. When the bad guy hears that thing being racked, they tend to get out of dodge quick. I’ve heard the sound of a 12 gauge being racked can have a “laxative” effect on the bad guy.

I shoot a 12 GA without a problem.
Small folks can shoot a 12 GA without issue, with proper training and mindset.

Remington 870.
Simple and to the point and it always goes bang.
Tape a couple of disposable foam earplugs to the stock.
For a female, the Remington 870 in 20 gauge (not 12!) is pretty spot-on for home defense.
Guys like the larger 12 gauge, but the recoil is not female-friendly.
Wondering that myself. I’m 6’ so not small but don’t want to shoot through 3 walls either. Guess bear shot would do that. Just looking for major stopping with in-the-dark aim of a shotgun. Maybe 20?

Ooooh. Now that’s sexy.
88’s are excellent. no real diference btwn the 500 except you cant change the pump handle. get a nice padded tactical butt to absorb some energy and keep you more on target and customize’for your armlength and you’re good.
