I have a stupid Computer Question:

Posted on 08/16/2014 6:16:56 PM PDT by Vinylly

It used to be that when I misspell a word, if it's mispelled it is underlined in red. This doen't happen anymore. How do I reactivate this spell checker feature? I'm cumputer illiterate so you will have to give to me slow. Somebody said it's in the toolbar, but what and where is the toolbar? Somebody else said look for the Microsoft symbol on the screen, I don't see that either. There is suppose to be a symbol of a wrench, which I can't find. I couldn't find anything about the toolbar in the minus. I'm using a Dell laptop computer. Thank for any useful help.

Not all programs have spell check.

Which browser are you using? You should have a spell check option under settings somewhere.

That’s performed by whatever program you’re using. Browser, word processor, etc., and is not a function of the computer or OS per se, so you need to state what OS and program you’re talking about. Then someone can give directions for that program how to turn spellcheck back on.

Check your custom dictionary for an entry for that word. Use your online help if you’re not sure how to get there.

I have a stupid computer also.

I use Waterfox and when I right clicked in this box I got a drop down menu that had spell check in it with a check mark in front of “Spell Checking”. I also have Waterfox with a jagged red line under it.

Have you tried pressing the Any key?

Along the top ribbon, you should have a tab called "Review", LEFT Click on "Review"
Then, the first big button that will show up at the top left will be "ABC spelling and grammar check". -- RIGHT Click that.
The pull-down menu that shows up with have "Customize quick access toolbar" as the second choice. RIGHT click that.
A new window will open. On the Left hand side of that window, the third choice down will be "Proofing". LEFT click that.
One of the check boxes will say "check spelling as you type".

Is it checked?

Go get a 10 year old kid.. They can generally set your watches, work your remote TV controls and do settings on iPhones, and get you up and running in the computer world. It´s okay, we all have to resort to people who know more than we do.

That’s Microsoft Word 2007, anyway.

The weirdest thing for me is when I post here from hubby’s mac book and I make a spelling error, the “teh” or something like that it auto corrects it.

I use Word 2003 and I think it does that. Not everything, sometimes even spell check has no idea what you’re trying to say.
