Why would a medical professional give a child a vaccination if she had a sore throat?

Trisham, IMHO, you may have hit the nail on the head, so to speak.

A vaccination shot isn't supposed to be given to people if they have symptoms of the flu, for example. Before giving someone a shot, the doctor/nurse will ask if you're sick; if you are, they won't give you the shot.

Incidentally, I recently brought one of my teens for a shot, and that was the first question asked by the nurse.

So, why was this young girl given the shot?

What happened to this young girl is heartbreaking. I hope the family finds peace in time.
