There are some recreational drugs that should not be used at all, or used only in moderation while you are nursing. These include alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens, and methamphetamines. With cocaine, heroin, PCP (angel dust), and LSD, the data is clear: they should never, EVER be used by nursing mothers, even in small doses. They can and do cause serious medical problems in you and your baby. If you must abuse these drugs, dont nurse your baby and get some help.
Multitasking is bad??
She should be spayed, and the baby removed to another home.
Which branch of the Mennonite Church is she a member of?
Another bombshell conflict with abortion on demand, sort of like the sex or race selection or identifying the gay gene abortion conflict that peels the shallow thinking off of the pro-abortion position.
If a pregnant mother drinks, the foetus will wind up with the same BAC (blood alcohol content) as the mother. That’s a very bad thing. However, if a mother drinks while breastfeeding, there is much, much less risk for the baby.
You’re legally drunk, when you have about 0.08% alcohol in your bloodstream. The percentage of alcohol in breast-milk would be somewhat less than that amount. Meanwhile, a beer has about 5% alcohol — over 60 times the concentration of alcohol in the bloodstream of a drunk, and about 100 times the concentration of alcohol in the breast-milk of that drunk woman. The article you cite makes this point about dilution and filtering.
While a pregnant woman should abstain from alcohol, a nursing mother should be able to enjoy (say) an occasional glass of wine, without feeling guilty. If moderation is practiced, the BAC would be about 1/3, or less, of the amounts for the hypothetical drunk mentioned above.
(Please note: I didn’t comment on the other drugs.)
Just trying to make sure her baby has a good shot at one of the limited special education slots a few years from now.
It may be to the mother's own benefit if she is kept in prison for a good long time. I mean that seriously. Get clean, get control of her mind again, lead an ordered life, make use of the resources available: it could be the beginning of a better life for her.
On another topic: in Germany a low malt beer, sometimes mixed with water, has been prized by breastfeeding mothers for centuries. Surprisingly rich in vitamins and helps relax and hydrate the mother. It's a traditional milk-friendly nutrient --- I drank the occasional beer (in moderation) while nursing and have nothing but good to say about it.
I used to think. breastfeeders cared about their children until my sister in law. Turns out it was easier to flop a boob in the middle of the night instead of sterilization of bottles and nipples and heating up etc... she made it till 2 years before abandoning her to me.
I completely agree with your first two paragraphs. The third was very interesting — thanks. New mothers deserve some breaks.

That’s an interesting article.
“The alcohol content in breast milk immediately after drinking is equivalent to a 0.0274 proof beverage.”
Her conclusion backs up (with empirical evidence) the calculations I posted. Actually, it seems that I erred on the side of caution by a factor of 10 — so, it’s even safer for a nursing mother to have a drink, than I was saying.
BTW, for a comparison, “near-beer”, or “dealcoholized beer” (which I drink, when I want a bitter, rather than a sweet soft drink), has an alcohol content of 0.50%, or 1.0 proof — about 40 times that of breast milk, after the mother consumes one drink of alcohol.
