Dunno about that. I was (as always) a die-hard Win98 holdout before switching to Xp and had no issues with it from the start.
Thought it was a great improvement over 98 actually, with the built in driver support in particular. Hated loading drivers all the time before. Most things stayed in the same place so navigation was easy.
Maybe in Windows 9 the “App store” can be turned off as easy as a feature. We had make a powershell script to remove it from our corporate image of 8.1. PITA
I still am using Vista notebook and have no clue what windows it’s using??? How do you determine this?
I'll see,in good time,if 9 is worth my while. If not,I see no reason why 7 can't serve me just as long as XP has.
Depends on which one if feels like showing you. If I type just “cal” I get the full screen calculator and full screen calendar in my list and ONLY them. If I keep typing and get to “calcul” then all of a sudden there’s 2 calculators in my list one of which doesn’t suck. One way or the other they made something that was good (in 7 “cal” would have gotten you both calculators... assuming they were dumb enough to have 2) and made it not as good. 8 is just plain not good.
Fwiw, my Windows 8.0 laptop won’t upgrade to 8.1.
I’ve tried several times, using various suggestions to make it work, but each time I try to update I’d downloads over a GB of patches, spends 6-8 hours installing them, then it reboots, says the update failed, then it spends 6-8 hours rolling the updates.
I’m now running Fedora Linux, and it does everything I want to do. I have no plans to go back to Windows.
Discount? Better be free...(for PCs bundled with 8...)
I agree 100%. You learn to tolerate 8. Not well thought out. Seems to take an extra step to do everything.
Better get a discount to upgrade or I see a law suit. I was happy with XP.
I have a computer that has not be used. Windows 8.1 came with the package. Do I now have to buy the 9 upgrade on a system I haven’t used?
I guess I have never had that problem. If I want the scientific calculator I just switch it using the drop down menu. The app store also has some fantastic calculators if you need more options.
Well I built mine from scratch so a discount is fine with me.
Try running wsreset.exe first.
I’d prefer they not have screwed up the original. That’s really the story of 8, take things that worked well in previous versions of Windows (sometimes MANY previous versions) and make them not as good.
I’m sticking with Win7.
I have no need for Microsoft Office, with that pesky Internet Explorer, either.
Why?
I’m retired from the corporate world, so since ‘they’ are no longer paying me to have a worthless program in my machine, I scrubbed it off my machine. All of my ‘submitted works’, I have kept in ‘rtf’ format, as well as a paper copy and a ‘pdf’ copy.
My ‘people of interest’ can get along with regular email, and no Outlook, or a phone text. I write what I do, in either Wordpad, or RoughDraft, which is ‘wordpad-able’, and therefore, readable on any machine. If I really need to, I send a ‘pdf’ file.
I have no need for Excel or Access, since all those functions, I do in pen and ink, in books, as I have done for over 20 years, including my taxes.
‘Presentation’ packages are only great for those in the corporate/federal worlds, that have to justify their existence, through the creation of such things in employee-slogging-to-attend training seminars.
“Microsoft ignored them all. The only word for that is hubris.”
And I bet that the fools who designed Windows 8 will find a home running Obamacare, where they can ignore and poorly serve an even bigger customer base.
Type it where?
Yep, I’m quite happy with Windows 7
Trying to force the touch tablet interface to the desktop was a major fail.
98-XP-7-? We will see. Kept one old desktop with XP going just for the stuff on it that I am too lazy to reinstall on the 7 machine. USB switch for the keyboard and good to go.
On the start screen.
