I have some news. Polygamy never went away. Far more of this goes on than almost anyone realizes.

Ahh, but is it recognized by law?
If a man has four “wives” but is officially married to only one of them and forgot to write a will... who gets his money at his death?
Do our laws cater for that?
I was eviscerated at work when a woman asked for advice. Her husband of at least two decades has come out as “gay”. His advice to maintain a family for the children is adopting an “open marriage”. She wanted to know if she should go to counseling to accept his condition, get a divorce or go to the support group for single spouses of gay men someone referred her to.
I said that if her husband has been faithful to her for 20 years and wants to maintain his family for the sake of the children, he should get counseling to control his urges as he has been and stay faithful to her while raising the kids. If he wants to cheat on her, do what you’d do if he cheated on her with another woman - divorce, get the house and kids. But don’t have an open marriage, where he exposes her to STDs and wastes her money on his side pursuits.
Actually what we have can be described as “ serial polygamy “ now.
How many people have a single monogamous partner for life?
Polygamy is not the same as Polyamorous
Not even close.
