VA healthcare: Tentative deal reached in Congress

Congressional negotiators have reached a tentative agreement on legislation to bolster healthcare funding and reforms at the troubled Veterans Administration, salvaging a deal after talks imploded last week.

The accord comes none too soon: Lawmakers are poised to leave town at the end of the week for the long August break. A stalemate could politically damage the already unpopular Congress.

The top negotiators, Sen. Bernard Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.), scheduled a press conference for Monday after working through the weekend. Final details of the package were still being completed, aides said.

Miller and Sanders “made significant progress toward an agreement on legislation to make VA more accountable and to help the department recruit more doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals,” they said in a joint statement.

The deal would address both the long- and short-term needs of the VA, aides said.

Of course. They can only cut a deal if they themselves get something for nothing out of it.

I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t kept up with the VA crisis as well as I should have.

But, from what I have read, this is sorta like the IRS bungle. Gvt managers and bureaucrats should be going to prison. Especially since there have been some claims that Vets have died due to VA neglect.

This is BS. Unless the Congress is pinkslipping most of the VA middle management and replacing them nothing will change. The policies of the Federal Govt are mostly created and implemented at the mid management level. That’s where the corruption is.

No one is in jail. The EXEMPT Congress is derelict.
