Duran Duran Sue Own Fan Club

Duran Duran are suing their own fan club for breach of contract, claiming that it did not pay the band its promised revenue. In 2010, the group signed a contract with Worldwide Fan Clubs, Inc., based in a town about 30 minutes outside of Chicago, that guaranteed the band 75 percent of all profits, according to Chicago Sun-Times, while the company kept the rest.

Although part of the suit alleges that the company failed to keep precise fan-club records, collect membership fees and keep accurate accounting, Simon Le Bon & Co. claim that the company owes them approximately $40,000 in damages. The company was also supposed to serve as a warehouse that would sell band merchandise.

The Associated Press reports that Worldwide Fan Clubs had no comment on the matter.

Currently, Duran Duran – whose membership remains the same as their 1981 debut minus guitarist Andy Taylor – are working on a new album with a little help from former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante. "We are all such big fans of John's work and are honored to have him adding his magic to the record," the group reported in a blog post. "There are no current plans for John to tour with us, but his guitars sound incredible on the tracks." It is unclear how much of the album the guitarist will play on.

Couldn’t stand them! I put them in the same class as Boy George, if you know what I mean! But I’m a Rockabilly punk, Country pedal steel player, who likes to play Gatton tunes,,, so they had no appeal to me.

Yikes. Doesn't seem like a very good fit.

The big news is that Duran Duran still has any fan club. I’m guessing this is made of people over the age of 40. Money is money. I could see big money makers like Gaga or Adelle or Elton spending four million dollars in pursuit of this 40.thousand, just to make a point :Don’t Mess With Me!, Capice?. Sometimes you have to stand up for yourself, never mind sentiment.

They are to the 80s what Led Zeppelin was to the 70s. Duran Duran really set the tone of the decade.

Hey, 25 songs all built around a single 4-part vocal chord — that certainly rates a fan club. One worth suing, even.

They must be hard up for cash if they are going after $40,000 in this manner. Back in their prime, that’s probably what they spent on catering for their post-concert spread in the dressing room when they were on tour.

Good God, kill me now. I grew up in the 80s and I HATED it! I like to call it “The MTV music holocaust” because it WAS. It’s when the music industry realized they could sell records simply on video alone. So the quality of music got thrown into the back seat while imagine and posing got pushed out to the front, and it still goes on today but even worse with Disney leading the charge with the karaoke crap. All these freakin’ twerps given “music careers” while 9000 “producers” work in the background like puppeteers. Britney Spears is a good example, her album “Circus” I think set a record for 30 “producers” which means “she had absolutely nothing to do with making this record”. I haven’t listened to mainstream for years, all the independents out there just blow the mainstream right out of the water. One good band I found a few months ago called “Grizzly bear” is just absolutely amazing.

Kurt Vile (yes that is his birth name) is another one......
