We have our BW (black and white) male dying. He's 12. He started loosing weight a few months ago. Thought Hyperthyroidism at fires. Treated for that. He responded for a couple of months and then began to loose weight, again. Then, cancerous tumor on the spleen was found.

Rather than put him down, we decided to do hospice, because he is a valued friend.

We give him pain medication twice a day and will until the end.

Putting a friend down is very traumatic. As is this, but this allows him to go in his own way. Hurts just as much.

It is good news, but the term “foster parent” sets my teeth on edge as does “pet parent”. Humans do not give birth to these animals after all.

Why? They are cats.

Has birth control for domestic dogs and cats become easily available and affordable? This may be one reason for the decrease. The result is less uncared for animals out there, making them that much more precious.
