Okay, okay, so the first DNC experiments didn't workquite meet the project parameters as expected. But yah gotta admit that the Robert Reich and Barbara Milkulski prototypes are a great improvement. Got that almost lovable Ewok/woodchuck/possum sort of perverse cuteness.
About the grub eating, now they only do that at night in their burrows. Well, except for that guy that eats his own ear wax. Give him credit for recycling.
