Lol. You bring back memories. Thornton and Dietz, two demons masquerading as DI’s. And that was over 40 years ago.

Too bad those Marines didn’t kick that jive punk’s ass. But they did a good job.

Later it was announced that the imposter required sargeant major surgery.

LOL And he’ll be out of the body cast in 6 months.

I have met several frauds who told me that they were Vietnam vets. Based upon their age they would have been about 10 years old when they were drafted and sent to ‘Nam.

They changed all the numbers and consolidated them yet again.

I am not sure how the officer ones are done now (not that that applied to me).

I don't think I ever saw a hard stripe corporal in my days in the Regular Army. I went to a National Guard unit after I got out. It was a heavy equipment Engineer Unit. All of the E-4’s were corporals. Not a Spec 4 in the unit.

I once had an “acting Jack” corporal (so really a PFC, E-3) try to tell me to do something. After I got up off the floor from laughing I asked him if he realized I was an E-6? He actually didn’t.

Unless they weren’t in the Army or Marines. Then it would be, “What was your AFSC?” for the Air Force, and “What was your rating?” for the Navy.

I know they've done reorganization of the enlisted MOS system since I resigned my commission. Technically speaking, (commissioned) officers have Areas of Concentration or AOCs (and possibly later in their career a Functional Area) and warrant officers have warrant officer MOSs. Some of the recent changes have actually brought at least some of the branch codes into common. For example, when I was an MP officer, I was a 31A. The old MP enlisted MOSs were all 95 series, but they now also fall into 31 series, which used to belong to the Signal Corps.

Evidently AFSCs were modified in ‘93. My AFSC in the late 80’s was 49350.

Network “news” has been a joke for years. The late Jules Bergman was the “aviation expert” on one of the networks. He did a special on aviation that was laughably incorrect. I sent him a private letter, graciously correcting some of his mistakes, noting that I am a retired NFO, ATP, and CFI. Jules, the private pilot, sent me back a flame mail in which he insulted me personally and then made fun of my corrections and told me to shut up. What a boob.

Ha, a Tech Controller! Pleased to meet you! I retired as a 3C090, which is Comm-Computers Superintendent. Had a shop full of Tech Controllers working for me at Maxwell. Those were some heady times, as we went from the old comms world over to computer networking.

Now none of these career fields exist at all—they’re all combined as cyberspace support specialties...
