Re: “Why would there be gas in the permafrost? Could there be old plant matter? How can there be plant matter if there is permafrost?”

That’s a really good insight.

However, I was under the general impression that almost all natural gas forms from marine organisms, not from plant life.

I had an instant thought, also, but in a different direction.

It’s hard to believe these craters are forming for the very first time in history.

Thus, there might be many more of these craters, now filled in over thousands of years, in this region.

If there are more ancient craters out there, I’ll guess each one might be a treasure chest for paleontology and archeology.

If they can find the third we will know with certainty that the earth is really a bowling ball.

There are interesting geological processes at work in Siberia all the time. The Patomsky Crater is interesting. It's like a cold volcano that erupted solid rock. The nutcases are sure it was UFOs but there are also clear signs of a molten eruption on the site as well.

“there might be many more of these craters, now filled in over thousands of years, in this region.”

Just look at the picture background. See all those roundish bodies of water? The same thing just eroded and filled to the top with water.

The aerial view on google earth shows even more.

The Nenet people who live there are ORIENTAL ASIANS, as opposed to Caucasian Asians: Indians, Pakistanis. The Nenet look Chinese but...one would have to see the shape of their nostrils to know that.

From the Internet: The Yamal Peninsula (Russian: полуо́стров Яма́л) is located in Yamal-Nenets autonomous district of northwest Siberia, Russia.
It extends roughly 700 km (435 mi) and is bordered principally by the Kara Sea, Baydaratskaya Bay on the west, and by the Gulf of Ob on the east.

In the language of its indigenous inhabitants, the Nenets, "Yamal" means "End of the Land."
