It’s possible you’ve already heard of the greatest harebrained political scheme of the year: Venture capitalist Tim Draper’s plan to break California into six states, which might actually face a statewide vote in 2016. It all depends on whether Draper managed to snag the necessary number of signatures — 807,615 according to SFGate — to get the plan on the ballot. He’s claimed to have 1.3 million signatures, which would mean the residents of California would get to vote on the biggest breakup proposal in state history.

Alright this is still a long shot, but the guy has 1.3 million signatures (supposedly) already, he needs 807 thousand.

This poster is rooting for him.

If the left coast gets SIX more senators we are finished. This poster is most emphatically not rooting for him.

Central California

Pros:

•Like most of California, brimming with an abundant natural beauty, if a rather dry one.
•The base of California’s agricultural economy, with farmlands stretching all throughout the valley — it here that Cesar Chavez organized the National Farmworkers Association in the 1960s.
•Political implications aside, the California Aqueduct is pretty cool looking.

Cons:

•That aforementioned LAO report found that Central California would be the country’s poorest state.
•Dependent on the underpaid, over-exerted migrant farm workers who pick and tend crops under the blazing-hot summer sun.
•The entire state of California is in the grips of a drought right now, and that’s a huge problem for residents and landowners in the valley.

I would think that after freeing itself from the welfare tax state and enviro whackjobs they could afford to hire actual citizens as workers and have enough water to raise stuff..

More likely they would concentrate all the Conservatives in one state. So in the Senate you have:
GOP +2
rats +8

Well a vast majority of those would likely be democrats.

However it would split up the electoral votes from the state.

I’m for this.

I just want to separate Chicago off into it’s own state, then the rest of us in IL could offset it, at least in the Senate.

This is idiocy. It isn’t a long shot. It is utterly impossible and has galvanized Dims to vote. This man is a fool’s fool

There is more of a chance I’ll get my own personal condo on Mars with cable.

I believe electoral votes equals number of reps + senators, so they would end up having even more electoral votes if I’m correct.

Given they way he proposes to break up the effect in the senate would likely be a wash - split equally between the parties.

Compared to what we have today - Boxer & Feinstien.

The state of Jefferson, and we could add the Oregon counties on the north end of our new state. There are a lot of good people in those counties, being robbed daily to pay for the dope smoking liberals in the rest of the state, living on the taxes collected from S. Oregon.

I want to live in the very conservative part or county. Not next to some hippies running around naked and on dope.

“The one that enacts Constitutional Carry because I know if they get that right they’ll be pretty solid on most other things.”

The new state of Jefferson would enable carry laws, and they might require it in certain counties.

I think this has a chance.

He evidently already has enough signatures.

There is a trade-off. The electoral votes, which are currently all doing to Dems, will be partly split, and the GOP will win in that regard. Recognizing Dems will still have a majority, but some will split off.

However there will be a number of new Senators, and (most) of those will go Democrat.

So I’m not convinced either side would necessarily object.

“Along with Central California, Jefferson is a heavily-conservative region of the state — of the 14 counties it contains, 12 backed Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.”

This is a “con” of living in the newly-created state of Jefferson?
